ultimatecub, have you gone back to uni yet?

We're in a sort of a lockdown...we've closed the borders to the rest of the country so we haven't had much go wrong. We have a great mining industry so our economy is doing well too. The state government GAVE everyone/every household $600 towards their power bills last year. They wanted to share the spoils with the residents of the state. That helped.

Nah, I haven't gone back yet. I'm supposed to be on Easter break now and should hopefully be going back in about a month.

Wanted to pop in and see how everyone is doing since it's been a few months since anyone has posted.

School is opening back up, so grandchildren will be going back and off home school. Covid is still lingering here and now we have a few cases of the Delta. Mandatory masks seem to be back right now, but I never stopped wearing one whenever I leave the house (which is not that often now).

Temps here have been really high now for at least a month+ with triple digits being the norm. We had a few days of 109 with a terrible degree of humidity. You either walk outside into a sauna or an oven. High temps are not helping with the spread of fires which are destroying so much land and homes again.

Well, it's Friday and I'm ready for weekend. Stay safe everyone and have a great weekend.

We had temperatures of 31C here (which according to Google is 88F) and I found it WAY too hot, 109 doesn't sound fun.

We've opened up here now but it's taking some getting used to. Going to a football (soccer) game tomorrow with no distancing which feels odd (although mask wearing is encouraged). Next week going to my first gig since Feb 2020 or so

We are now closing back up. Many places are requiring workers (especially medical field) to get the vaccine or it could cost them their jobs. Sgt and I finally gave up and got ours on Wednesday.

School is starting up next week and no masks are required. Big mistake since we seem to be going backwards with more of the Delta strand hitting our area.

We finally got a break with our temps around 98 degrees, but triples to return tomorrow. The fires are raging and so many acres involved and lots of homes and businesses burning. Between the high temps, winds, and drought back, there seems to be no end in sight.

Hope everyone is safe and doing well.

I work at a school and they have said all summer that masks would be required indoors when school came back in the fall. The district is asking employees to say whether or not they've been vaccinated, but not requiring proof yet. Honestly, unless there's a valid medical reason not to get one, everybody should.

When I was getting my second dose back in May, I overheard two ladies talking about the sugar cubes, and I had no idea what they were talking about. But I asked my mom and my aunts, and they all remembered going to the local high school and standing in line for a sugar cube!
It was, of course, the smallpox vaccine. I wasn't born yet, and I imagine I either got a jab for it or was too young to remember the doctor giving me some sugar, lol. But it amazes me how the times have changed - so many people view the world through a layer of mistrust.

Anyway, it's not hot here at all, just our normal foggy summer. I'm not complaining. We took a trip down to Solvang and temps there were in the 90s, which was enough to wipe us out with all the walking we were doing. A nice end to the summer, as I go back to work next Wednesday.

Yes whoviandeb, smallpox and sugar cubes.
I remember lining up to get the rubella shot.
I think they just used the same needle over a few times - into the bunsen burner and NEXT!
No paperwork or parental permission. You just got it.

Going back to uni in a couple of weeks. How has everyone been doing on Braingle? I haven't been active for a while.

This has definitely been a busy 6+ months for me... on Sunday morning we will be heading to New York for the fourth time since mid March together.

It is safe to say my new lady friend and I are on the brink of a life time commitment, her oldest daughter is having custody battle issues with a complete jerk, but a jerk who has money and three lawyers. The daughter did get a court appointed lawyer to help her, because the jerk changed all the passwords to her accounts and her funds are limited. She asked mom to help her cope with the next week before the hearing, and I told her I needed to be there to support too. I got a nice hug for that!

Pop Pop Pop... back from New York, with a surprising visit to Northern Virginia.

Back to construction, seems never ending. New front porch and walkway in progress... hired it out to a concrete contractor.

Snappy, its been great. Yeah, four trips so far to New York this year, with one more planned just after Thanksgiving. Along with that, two more to Northern Virginia... though the second one pending arrival of her daughter's second child... December or January.

Next year already 2-3 trips... one in March to Northern Virginia and one in June to New York... my new lady never really got to celebrate her grand childrens' birthdays so she wants to start doing it now before the grand children could care less if she's there or not! My relationship with her already dictates I go with her too, happily. Then for the 4th of July, she wants to be in New York for the firework show... we actually plan on staying on the New Jersey shoreline if we find that the fireworks are visible there (we were told they are either on the east or the west banks. Will have to look it up later.

Enjoy your summer, our winter is starting to touch base... this Saturday may be our last look at nice warm weather at 88 degrees... cold nights at 55 or so. I know, not cold enough for some!

Been bouncing in and back out of Braingle for the past couple of months. It's been interesting seeing what I've done on this site over the past couple years. I've gotten to see some of my failed forum threads and some of my earliest Werewolf games. Happy to see this site still rake in about the same web traffic as it did when I joined.

Hope everyone's having fun doing...well, anything really.

May create a new forum thread once I can think of an idea I can stick to. Rules are Rules 3 with either new and improved me or a different host could work.
