It's now the 6th day of this months and year yet the condition known as "death" is yet to be cured!

Well then.

Mollie Sugden died on July 1st - Mrs. Slocumbe from "Are You Being Served?" - classic British comedy.

She was a wonderful actress. The british humor in these comedies is often dry, and slightly obscure, yet she would bring the line home and punch out the zinger with such a poise and personality, it was hard at times not seeing Mrs. Slocumbe as a real person. i didn't see much of other things Mollie Sugden has done, though i saw enough to appreciate her range of acting. the british comedies have been such a mainstay of weekly events on the pbs channels.

Thank you, dswilborn, for bringing this to our attention!

She lives on, in her character, and the pbs folks are honoring her, i noticed, in their way.

The real date was 4 May, 1970

Crosby Stills Nash and Young sang Ohio:

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are gunning us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are cutting us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.

and now, back to your regularly scheduled obituaries...

350,000 people are born each day. 150,000 die each day. Whch means the worlds population is growing by 200,000 people a day! (Link here for reference.)

for more dying, i'm not for that

for more being born, i'm not for that either

how about less of each... that i like. just a personal opinion.

Millions of jokes die, every day.
Only thousands are born

Here, we can move the gauntlet up a notch.

here is a website that lists people who are LIKELY to die in 2009

The DeathList 2009 lists, among others, Ravi Shankar, sitar guru.

RIP (whenever that time comes)

I always liked him. Very professional.

Take all sorrow out of life and you take away all richness, and depth, and tenderness. The capacity of sorrow belongs to our grandeur. It is the furnace that melts hearts together in love.

Walter Cronkite? That's too bad. But, I thought he died years ago. I don't know why I thought that. Boy, do I feel stupid!

It is unfortunate, but people die everyday. When you hear on the news someone died, do you cry your eyes out because you weren't there that moment, or do you sigh and say what a shame. We cannot stop every death on earth. Nor can we get worried about it because it happens all the time.

So, yeah, people die everyday, but we cannot let it ruin our life because of it.

~KOS~

P.S. IFB, this topic is pretty messed up, and not much to talk about, because it is a known fact to everyone.

OY, how depressing is this

Old numbers... latest was 2007 but still...

16,929 were murdered in that one year...

It's gone down considerably from the high in 91 of 24,700... true enough...
but it's still a sickeningly high number of lives lost... *sigh*

Even in Texas, where we enforce the death penalty the numbers aren't pretty...
but quite a bit better than our nation's capital...
The place where our nation is judged by the world had, in 2007, a murder rate of 1 in 3250 people...
Texas for the same period was 1 in 16834.

Just sad.

Maybe this shouldn't be in "People" Died Today but what the heck . . .

Gidget, the famed Chihuahua who appeared in Taco Bell ads, died Tuesday 7/21/09 at the age of 15.

It's not what you know, it's what people think you know.

Or 105 in doggie years... pup had a good long life...

One a lot better than the thousands and thousands of animals in shelters...

Wasn't that just the subtlest nudge to adopt you ever read?

I loved the way they taught her to actually speak. that MADE the commercials..

there were multiple Lassies, maybe we need to scrounge the shelters for a Gidget II.

By the way, i for one, thought it was a FINE addition to this topic.

thanks!
