People Died Today
I totally concur with whoviandeb... living in Los Angeles, I know the impact his death has around me. Lots of tributes and such.
I even made a comment tonight as I drove two of my family members to the LAX airport for their return to Virginia after coming out here for a family funeral when I saw a bill board honoring him... "Wow, that was quick", then it changed and we sort of laughed, 'Of course, its electronic now, easy to change'. Point is, Los Angeles is grieving about his loss... at least most of us. Basketball is the only sport I EVER tried out for in school, and though I was tall, I could not dribble... so I never made the team. My dad played, my son played... I was left out; but it was not my favorite sport but my middle school PE teacher felt my height would make me a good player... I proved him wrong.
Kobe Bryant was a player though; he will go down as one of the best. His daughter and those on the helicopter were victims of the lack of height sensors. Maybe his death will help the industry put these sensors in helicopters as mandatory... to be called the Kobe Sensor.

Kirk Douglas, one of the last surviving movie stars of Hollywood's legendary Golden Age. He was in so many movies with so many great actors that he is a legend in his own time. 103... can not beat that... they don't even have to warrant a cause. I hope TCM does a day to remember him, he was in some great movies.

Robert Conrad, the actor best known for his role in the television show The Wild Wild West, has died. He was 84.
"He lived a wonderfully long life and while the family is saddened by his passing, he will live forever in their hearts," family spokesman Jeff Ballard tells PEOPLE.
Born in Chicago on March 1, 1935, Conrad worked as a milkman while pursuing a career as a local nightclub singer before moving to Los Angeles in 1958 and booking his first big recurring role on Hawaiian Eye in 1959.
After Hawaiian Eye, the actor went on to star as Secret Service agent James T. West in The Wild Wild West, which ran from 1965 to 1969. The show followed the characters of West and Artemus Gordon as the country's first Secret Service agents exploring the west during the Ulysses S. Grant administration.
Personally, I loved him in Baa Baa Blacksheep, but the show only lasted two seasons so it's not considered a highlight in his life.

Actress Kellye Nakahara has died. She was 72.
Nakahara died on Saturday at her Pasadena, California home following her "fight" with cancer, a press release obtained by PEOPLE revealed.
"Kellye Nakahara Wallett succumbed to her fight with cancer surrounded by her family and close friends," the press release states.
"And fight she did, with humor, spunk and laughter."
Nakahara is survived by her son William, her daughter Nalani Wallet and her husband David Wallet, whom she married in 1968. It was only after she got married that they moved to Pasadena, CA... where she decided to try acting.
Nakahara is most known for her reoccurring role as Lt. Kellye Yamato on the hit series M.A.S.H.
The show followed staff of an army hospital during the Korean War as they use humor to escape the horror of the war. The series first aired in 1972 and went on for 11 seasons before ending in 1983.
Kellye's character was more of a support role, as a nurse helping doctors. Along the way, the other actors saw she had what it took to take her role to the next level and a few episodes were about her. She performed them in the highest quality of her profession. I still watch the show nightly on ME TV, never get tired of their stories. I'm sure, as they have done before for other actors of the show that have passed, they do something like a week of the persons best shows.

Watching TCM last night, I caught a tribute to Max von Sydow, who died at his home in France on March 8th. The cause of death has not been disclosed. He was 90 years old.

Actor-singer Kenny Rogers, the smooth, Grammy-winning balladeer who spanned jazz, folk, country and pop with such hits as Lucille, Lady and Islands in the Stream and embraced his persona as "The Gambler" on record and on TV died Friday night (March 20). He was 81.
I saw Kenny live on the stage many a year ago. One of the best shows I ever saw, he was so personal to the crowd and seemed genuine! The other person who put on a good show was Neil Diamond... but that's another story another day!

Carl Reiner, the writer, producer, director and actor who was part of Sid Caesar's legendary team and went on to create "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and direct several hit films, has died. He was 98.
He died of natural causes on Monday night at his home in Beverly Hills, his assistant Judy Nagy confirmed to Variety.
Reiner, the father of filmmaker and activist Rob Reiner, was the winner of nine Emmy awards, including five for "The Dick Van Dyke Show." His most popular films as a director included "Oh God," starring George Burns, in 1977; "The Jerk," with Steve Martin, in 1979; and "All of Me," with Martin and Lily Tomlin, in 1984.

Philbin, a born and bred New Yorker, was known for his contagious excitement and incomparable storytelling on screen as a talk and game show host. He holds the Guinness World Record for "Most Hours on U.S. Television" with 16,746.5 hours, many of them live and unscripted.
"Spontaneous conversation," Philbin said about his approach to hosting in a 2011 New York Times profile. "Spontaneity is everything to me, working without a net."

Her death was announced on Facebook by her children, Traci Donat and Jordan Sommers. Reddy had dementia for several years before her death.
"I Am Woman" was by far Reddy's most famous song. But in the wake of its success, she released several more hits, including "Delta Dawn," "Angie Baby," "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)" and "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady."

Eddie Van Halen - the guitar virtuoso whose blinding speed, control and innovation propelled his band Van Halen into one of hard rock's biggest groups - has died. He was 65. A person close to Van Halen's family confirmed the rocker died Tuesday (October 6) due to cancer.
With his distinct solos, Eddie Van Halen fueled the ultimate California party band and helped knock disco off the charts starting in the late 1970s with his band's self-titled debut album and then with the blockbuster record "1984," which contains the classics "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher."
Van Halen also played guitar on one of the biggest singles of the 1980s: Jackson's "Beat It." His solo lasted all of 20 seconds and took only a half an hour to record. He did it as a favor to producer Quincy Jones, while the rest of his Van Halen bandmates were out of town.

"A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

Alex Trebek has died at age 80 after pancreatic cancer battle
Alex Trebek has died more than a year and a half after publicly revealing his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The Ontario-born Trebek was an American pop culture icon and a fixture in homes around the world as the beloved host of Jeopardy! for more than 35 years. He was 80.
The death was confirmed in a statement posted by the Twitter account for Jeopardy!, which noted that Trebek died early on Nov. 8 while surrounded by loved ones.
Jeopardy will never be the same.
