Dawn Wells, who found fame as pigtailed castaway Mary Ann Summers on the 1960s hit sitcom Gilligan's Island, died Wednesday morning in Woodland Hills, Calif., of complications from COVID-19, publicist Harlan Boll has announced. The actress was 82 years old.

"America's favorite castaway, Dawn Wells, passed peacefully this morning, in no pain, as a result of complications due to COVID, at the age of 82," Boll said in a statement to Yahoo Entertainment. The statement, which lists her time of death as 7:30 a.m., also notes that "there is so much more to Dawn Wells than Mary Ann."

Born in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 18, 1938, Wells competed in beauty pageants as a young woman, going on to be named Miss Nevada in 1959 and representing her home state in the 1960 Miss America pageant. That same year, she graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in theater arts and design.

On a personal notes, I had the hots for this castaway! Even at 17 years my senior.

Thank you Snappy, I always thought she was prettier than the Ginger character.

Tommy Lasorda, who for more than two decades managed the Los Angeles Dodgers and for twice that long lent his simmering, feisty, in-your-face temperament to the iconic franchise, died Thursday night. He was 93.

The team announced that he "suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home."

His death came less than three months after the Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays for their first World Series championship in 32 years. Lasorda attended the deciding Game 6 in Arlington, Texas. He had been hospitalized and placed in intensive care in November, and returned home Tuesday.

In a loud rasp and with a sparkle in his eyes, Lasorda regularly declared that his blood ran blue for the Dodgers and challenged anyone to disprove it.

As a Dodger fan all my life, he was the best manager. I liked Walter Alston, but loved the energy out of Tommy. I'm glad the Dodgers won the pennant last year and that Tommy was able to watch it happen in person.

Prince Philip has died - The Duke of Edinburgh dies at age 99

Prince Phillip, husband and consort to Queen Elizabeth II, recently spent four weeks in hospital, his longest stay ever.

The Palace said in a statement: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

The Palace said more announcements would be made and added: "The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

A notice announcing the death was placed outside Buckingham Palace, and mourners came to place flowers at the gates.

On Thursday night I was browsing through my TV's channels and came upon a Mary Tyler Moore show. I felt like laughing, so I watched it. The episode had to do with Mary and Sue Ellen (played by Betty White) going to Chicago for an adventure. It was funny.

I stopped and thought about these two women, knowing MTM had passed away some time ago, but recalled that Betty White was still going strong. In my mind I thought, I think she's 100 years old by now.

Then today, while driving to pick up my lady, the news came on the radio and the lady reporter said she was sorry to have to pass along the word that Betty White had died today and it was confirmed. She was two weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

I just got home from a little party and still have not read what caused her death, but being 99 almost 100, does it really matter? She was a treasure to those of us who watched her perform. My fiancee had reason to know her personally as she was the caretaker to a Hollywood legend of a director's mom. (sorry, sworn to keep my mouth shut of who) and said she was as she appeared on the screen a warm and wonderful woman. The world has been a funnier place to live in because of Betty White!

Sidney Poitier, the Bahamian-American actor who broke numerous Hollywood barriers in the 1950s and 1960s — most famously in 1964 when he became the first Black man to win the Oscar for best actor — has died, Bahamian news outlets reported Friday, citing the country's minister of foreign affairs. He was 94.

Details on the timing and manner of his death were not immediately available.

Over his career, Poitier was repeatedly the "first." He became the first Black man to win an international film award at the Venice Film Festival in 1957; the first to be nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in 1958; and, of course, he became the first to win it for "Lilies of the Field."

"I had a sense of responsibility not only to myself and to my time, but certainly to the people I represented," Poitier said in 2008. "So I was charged with a responsibility to represent them in ways that they would see and say, 'OK, I like that.'"

In 1969, while reviewing the Poitier film "The Lost Man," The New York Times' Vincent Canby wrote, "Sidney Poitier does not make movies, he makes milestones."

Bob Saget, who played Full House dad Danny Tanner, has died. He was 65.

"We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today," the Saget family said in a statement obtained by Yahoo Entertainment on Sunday. "He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter."

It continued, "Though we ask for privacy at this time, we invite you to join us in remembering the love and laughter that Bob brought to the world."

At just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Orange County, Fla., Sheriff's Department deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, where the actor and comedian was found unresponsive in his hotel room. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

Cindy Williams, who was among the most recognizable stars in America in the 1970s and 80s for her role as Shirley opposite Penny Marshall's Laverne (who passed away in 2018 ) on the beloved sitcom "Laverne & Shirley," has died, her family said today.

Williams died in Los Angeles at age 75 on Wednesday after a brief illness, her children, Zak and Emily Hudson reported.

"The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed," the statement said. "Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved."

Williams worked with some of Hollywood's most elite directors in a film career that preceded her full-time move to television, appearing in George Cukor's 1972 "Travels With My Aunt," George Lucas' 1973 "American Graffiti" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation" from 1974.

But she was by far best known for "Laverne & Shirley," the "Happy Days" spinoff that ran from 1976 to 1983 that in its prime was among the most popular shows on TV.

Sorry guys... February 13th one of Hollywood's most beautiful gals passed away. I have watched her over the years, and sigh when I see her... only in my dreams would we ever meet!

Raquel Welch, an actress who rose to fame in the late 1960s and became an icon of her era, died at the age of 82 years old.

"Raquel Welch, the legendary bombshell actress of film, television and stage, passed away peacefully early this morning after a brief illness," Welch's manager, Steven Sauer, wrote in a statement.

Welch first gained prominence for her role in the 1966 adventure film "Fantastic Voyage," and her career took off with her next film, "One Million Years, B.C." While she only had a few lines in the movie, she appeared on the film's poster in a fur bikini — an image that turned her into an international sex symbol virtually overnight. (I had that poster in my bedroom as a teenager!)

In a 2012 interview with CBS Los Angeles, Welch addressed the film and the racy artwork, saying that she felt "demeaned" on set but knew the "silly costume" led to her "big break."

"The Lord was watching over me or something, because otherwise, why?" she said about her rise to stardom. "I mean, there was no reason for me to be on top of a volcano in that outfit shooting a dinosaur movie and when I come back, I'm a star. It's just nutty."

Bob Barker, who starred for more than five consecutive decades as a TV game show host, including 35 as the host of The Price Is Right, has died, according to his representative. He was 99 years old.

Born in Darrington, Washington on December 12, 1923, Robert William Barker grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where his mother was a schoolteacher. After his father's death and his mother's remarriage, the family moved to Springfield, Missouri. Barker graduated from high school, and Drury University in Springfield — after a stint in the Navy during World War II — and in 1950, moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Barker won 19 Daytime Emmy Awards, including a record 14 statues as Outstanding Game Show Host, and is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame. Time magazine named him the greatest game show host of all time in 2007, and after the taping of TPIR's 5,000th episode in 1998, Stage 33 at CBS Television City in Los Angeles was re-named Bob Barker Studio.

I read Bob Barker's memories, Priceless Memories. It is by no means great literature, but I enjoyed his retelling of his career. It also made me a little sad we'll probably never see another great game show host. Bob started in a time where audience participation shows were common, and it was the host's job to make random ordinary people interesting and entertaining. Most entertainers today are focused on making their own jokes.

I could go on about game shows hosts for pages, but that not this thread. RIP to one of the best.

Suzanne Somers, best known for her roles on Three's Company and Step by Step, has died.

Somers died on Sunday morning, PEOPLE confirms. She would have been 77 on Monday.

"Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years," Somers' longtime publicist R. Couri Hay wrote in a statement shared on behalf of the actress' family.

"Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family," the statement continued. "Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly."

She was far from being a dipsy blond!
