Puzzle Contest Rules & Entry

We hand construct each of our puzzles to be interesting and challenging, and hope that you enjoy solving them. Please support the creation of these puzzles with a small entry fee. If you are eligible for the contest, you will also be entered to win the prize. Points are earned by solving puzzles throughout the month and the person with the most points at the end is the winner.

Official Contest Rules

The purpose of this skill-based puzzle contest is to spread the joy of puzzles to more people. The entry fee is to pay for the puzzles. Constructing a good puzzle takes considerable time and energy and we want to support our small community of puzzle creators by paying them for their work. Everyone is welcome to pay the fee in order to gain access to the puzzles. If you are eligible, you may also enter the contest and possibly win a prize.

ELIGIBILITY

This contest is only open to legal residents of the United States. Contestants must also be thirteen years of age or older as of the start date of this contest (listed below). If, in your state of residence, you are under the legal age of majority (usually 18), one of your parents or legal guardians must indicate on your contest entry form that they have read, understood and agree to these contest rules with your entry, and that such agreement constitutes acceptance of these contest rules on behalf of you and themselves. To be eligible to win the prize, entries must be completed and received by Braingle in the format and by the deadline designated below. Employees of Braingle and their immediate families, and also employees and immediate family members of puzzle and prize suppliers are not eligible to win any prizes. All applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law. Limit 1 entry per person per month.

Winners of this contest will become ineligible to win the prize again for a period of six (6) months, but are welcome to continue to solve the puzzles for enjoyment.

DISCLAIMER

Braingle will not be responsible for: (a) any late, lost, misrouted or damaged entries; (b) any computer or communications related bug, malfunction or failure; (c) any disruptions, injuries, losses or damages caused by participating in this contest; or (d) any typographical or programmatic errors in any materials associated with this contest. In accepting the prize, the winner acknowledges that Braingle may not be held liable for any losses, damages or injuries associated with accepting or using this prize.

CONTEST PERIOD

The contest shall begin on the first of the each month at 12:01am and continue until the deadline at 11:59pm on the last day of the month. All entries must be received by the Deadline to be eligible to win the prize. The official clock is the Braingle web server located in the US Central timezone. Current time: Apr 18, 2024 11:20 pm.

PRIZE

Each month, a new prize is selected and announced at www.braingle.com/games/contest. The approximate retail value of these prize is $15-$30. The prize is not exchangeable, or redeemable in cash and must be accepted as awarded. All federal, state and local taxes associated with the receipt or use of the prizes are the sole responsibility of the winner. Braingle retains the rights, in its absolute and sole discretion, to make substitutions of any kind to the prize. Limit one prize per household per six (6) month rolling period. All prizes are awarded "AS IS" and without warranty of any kind, express or implied, (including, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose).

ODDS OF WINNING

This is a game of skill, not chance. All elements of chance and randomness have been eliminated from this contest. Each contestant receives the same puzzle at the same time. The odds of winning is entirely dependent on your skill and ability to quickly solve complex logic puzzles.

HOW TO ENTER

Throughout the month, Braingle will post several puzzles at www.braingle.com/games/contest. These puzzles are available to any person who has paid the entry fee, but only eligible contestants may enter the contest and win the prize. The release date and time for each puzzle will be published on the website so contestants will know when to expect them to become available.

The puzzles may be downloaded to your computer and printed. Each puzzle will have it's own specific instructions and may include several smaller puzzles that combine to form one larger puzzle. Once you have determined the answer to the larger puzzle, you may enter your solution on the website to record your entry. Each contestant is allowed only one entry per puzzle. No automated or offline entries are permitted.

SCORING

Points will be awarded for entering the correct answer. Bonus points may be awarded for entering your answer within a certain timeframe. Diminishing points may be awarded after making incorrect guesses. To know how many points a correct anwswer is worth for a particular puzzle, look for the indicator next to the answer entry form. At the end of the contest, the qualified contestant with the most points will be the winner.

TIE BREAKER

In the event that a contest ends with two (2) or more contestants tied for first place, a tie breaker will occur. Each of these contestants will be required to create a unique riddle and submit both the riddle and the answer to Braingle for judging. The riddles will be judged based on creativity, originality and quality. Braingle will judge the riddles anonymously and this judgement will be final. By submitting a riddle you grant Braingle the non-exclusive and non-revocable right to copy, modify, publish, print, license, sublicense and distribute your work in any medium without compensation to you.

WINNER NOTIFICATION

The winner will be notified via email within seven (7) days of the prize drawing. Winners will be required to respond to the email to acknowledge receipt of the prize. If no response is obtained from the winner within seven (7) days of notification, the prize may (at Braingle's discretion) be awarded to the contestant with the next highest score and this notification process will be repeated.

Contestants are expected to make sure that the email address registered to Braingle.com is accurate and able to receive email from braingle.com. Braingle cannot be held liable for misplaced or undelivered email.

The winner may be required to sign and return an "Affirmation of Eligibility" document to us before the prize can be awarded. Failure to do so within 14 days will forfeit the prize.

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

To access the puzzles and enter the contest, you will be required to enter your username, email address, country, zip code and credit card information. Winners will additionally be required to enter their full legal name, age, phone number and mailing address. This personal information is used for compliance with federal, state and local laws and will not be sold or shared with any third party. The contest is not open to minors under the age of thirteen (13). In the event that you are under the age of thirteen (13) years and submit a contest entry form, Braingle will delete all personally identifiable information that is obtained from the contest entry form.

Contestants grant to Braingle the right to freely use and publish their Braingle username and contest score online, in print, and in any other media, for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation unless prohibited by law.

GENERAL RELEASE

By entering the contest, you release Braingle from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, related to any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the contest or delivery, misdelivery, acceptance, possession, use of or inability to use any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory.

MISCELLANEOUS

Braingle reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the contest. Any attempt by a contestant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the web site is a violation of criminal and civil laws and, should such an attempt be made, sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such contestant to the fullest extent permitted by law.

The contest and these Official Rules will be governed, construed and interpreted under the laws of the state of California, United States. Contestants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding in all respects.
