It is time again for...
High School Drama!
Hello! I am your director. This year, for our spring production, we will be producing...
Little Shop of Horrors!
I know we are all excited to do our best, and all of you want to be cast in the lead roles, but some of you have to be chorus! Unfortunately for you, there are three among you that I have already determined to be my favored actors who I am already predisposed to casting in the lead rolls. In addition, these three actors have earned my ear, and they will be able to suggest one person each night for a role in a chorus position. Fortunately for the rest of you, one of you has also secretly been selected as my stage manager. In that role, they will be able to sneak into my records each night and check out the portfolio of one actor of their choice to determine if I have flagged them as a favored actor or not.
For our auditions, all actors auditioning will be divided into one of three rehearsal groups. You will meet in your own private TB where you may prepare for auditions in the main game. Rehearsal group "practice" may take place during auditions (day) and after hours (night). You may talk about whatever you would like, but remember that actors have been divided at random between the groups, so you might have a favored actor in your rehearsal group!
Terms:
Actor: All players (wolves, humans and seer)
Favored (wolf)
Stage manager (seer)
Rehearsal group (TB)
Auditions (day)
After hours (night)
Private Game: This is a private game to try to encourage all players to be active. If you are my friend, I trust you to be active, feel free to sign up! If you are not my friend, please PM me with your two most recent games (just the numbers are sufficient) so I may determine if you are an active player by your playing record. Active means voting most rounds and posting several times throughout each round with more than just "hey guys, I don't know who to vote for, I'm just going to SPV".
Revealing ID's: I will NOT be revealing ID's, so if this is going to bother you, please do not sign up. I will not take discussion on this.
Theme: I encourage you all to get into character and perhaps learn a little about the show. It will be fun! At the start of each round I will share a little about the decisions I have made regarding casting and I will include some of my favorite Little Shop references. (Note: this does not mean I will tell you if they were a favored or not, instead, I will be telling you who they were cast as.)

Ooh, there are only two of us so far, and three of us are already favourites. We must both be on Mocha's list! Sounds like I am in good company with this crazy tukus here.... Looking forward to this!
As you should note, I sent your talk box invite, Mochs. I will add you to the moderators as soon as you join, it appears I can't invite you as a moderator.
Tukus, you do like talking and singing to yourself, don't you? XD

limerick, I accidentally hit decline. :/ can you invite me again?
I'm glad to have two lovely people here to audition, however, limerick, you must prepare yourself, you might not be one of my favored people.

Given the amount of people involved in current WWGs, I think it's safe to say that it will be at least a week before this one fills up, by which time I will almost certainly have steady internet. In the meantime, I'd better brush up on this theme here, as I don't know the first thing about it. Theatre has never been my forte.
Glad to have you Billy! I'm sure you will have no problem with that sort of time line, and I'm sure people will understand if the game does start, if you have some time where you are not completely active.

Hi all, and thanks for the add Mocha. I usually just go by dcf, but I am open to another nickname. I have only seen the movie Little Shop of Horrors, and that was a while ago, so I should probably review before the game starts...
Sorry, nothing to see here folks, keep moving.

What does dcf stand for? I assume it stands for something and aren't just random letters. And, is 5/25 your birthday? If so, happy belated birthday!

For those of you not familiar with the musical, here is what Wikipedia has to say about it:
Each round I will post a little more of the synopsis from the show and some of my favorite lines from the songs to go along with it. Why? Just to get them stuck in your heads, of course!!!

Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.

I've only seen the movie as well... Although I've listened to the soundtrack for the musical...
Can anyone who's seen both tell us if there are any major differences between the two?

1986 feature film [edit]Main article: Little Shop of Horrors (film)
A film version of the musical was made in 1986. Directed by Frank Oz and noted as the only film written by Howard Ashman, it starred Rick Moranis as Seymour, Ellen Greene as Audrey, Vincent Gardenia as Mr. Mushnik, Steve Martin as Orin Scrivello, DDS, and the voice of Levi Stubbs as Audrey II. Bill Murray played the small comic role of the masochist, Arthur Denton. The 1986 film follows the plot of the musical closely but omits the songs "Ya Never Know" (rewritten as "Some Fun Now," a trio for Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon), "Mushnik and Son", "Now (It's Just the Gas)", "Sudden Changes," "Closed for Renovation" and "Call Back in the Morning"; the final cut ending also omits "Finale Ultimo (Don't Feed The Plants)". Other changes include the removal of Mr. Mushnik's adoption proposition and a new ending, in which Seymour is able to save Audrey from Audrey II and then electrocutes the plant after it has destroyed the shop. Seymour and Audrey marry and move to the tract home of her dreams, but a small Audrey II-type bud is seen in their garden, which portends a possible spread of the alien plants. An ending more faithful to the stage version was filmed, in which the plant eats Audrey and Seymour and then, having grown to massive size and reproduced, goes on a King Kong-style rampage through New York City. It was received poorly by test audiences, and the upbeat alternate ending was used for the theatrical cut. In October 2012, the original ending was restored and released with the film as "The Director's Cut" on DVD and Blu-ray. A new song for Audrey II, "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space", was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Awesome, thanks!
Perhaps I'll go back this weekend and listen to the songs that were omitted from the movie...
I knew about the alternate ending... They spent A LOT of money shooting the original ending, only to change it to a happy ending after it tested poorly.... I've not see the originally shot ending yet, though (although I knew it was released on DVD)...
It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, but I remember the basics...

Haha. I think it was along the lines of "Basically, the moral of the story is: Don't buy strange plants and definitely do not feed them people because they WILL eat you and try to take over the world. Also, dentists are sadistic."

Hey guys, this is going to be a busy weekend, so I may not be on much. I'll check in though to make sure the game hasn't started.
Dcf are my initials (the d=Dawn), but 525 was an old address- good guess about the birthday though!
Should we research our characters before we begin? I would not mind begin one of the background singers from the movie version. I hope that does not mean I die quickly though...
Sorry, nothing to see here folks, keep moving.

Hey dcf, or dawn, unfortunAtely, you won't get to know which character you have been cast in until you are out. That does not mean you can't pick the one you are aiming for to try to convince me to cast you in said role! I can just see it now, lots of Audrey's and Seymour's and do-wop girls running around with Audrey II's chasing them yelling "FEED ME!"

Km, you really DON'T want to be the seer! It's hell. I have ulcers from the stress of it. Please, I don't want to be seer again for a while! although, stage manager does sound more appealing. How much does it pay??
Ok. Time to warm up....
Red leather, yellow leather, red leather, yellow leather. She sells sea shells by the sea shore. She sells shea slells, oh darn it! Start again, red leather, yellow leath... Who's killing a cat? That sound is awful. *looks sideways and sneers at tukus apparently attempting to sing* (thinks to myself 'amateurs!' )

Honestly mocha, the yankees are awful this year *cries* but I still love them
Slammn, welcome to the story of my baseball fan life... Last time we were good, and I mean, really good, was in '95... My Oh My!
Tuku, I can't believe I even had to think about that question!!! Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Wins that category hands down in my book. Since I was in 6th grade I could sing every line of every song, and to this day, whenever someone says "So", my brain finishes it "back in Canaan the future looks rough (cha cha cha)"

Wow how could I miss a HSD game? My daughter was actually in the high school play when they did LSH.

I gotta say my favourite is West Side Story. I do like a few though! Up there is Phantom of the Opera, truly a masterpiece, Chess - I still sing some of the tunes from time to time, and another I enjoyed a lot was Into the Woods, I didnt know anything about it and it was very entertaining.
The most disappointing musical for me was Cats! I waited 20-something years to see it and when I finally did, I was terribly disappointed. No story, no flow. It makes me apprehensive to see Starlight Express if it ever gets a revival. Like Cats, I was too young to go when it came here.
I might try to remember all the ones I've seen and maybe list them if I can remember.
@Tan, I've never heard of Next to Normal. What is that about?

I just saw West Side Story "the movie" in music class.
All the musicals I saw are:
Mama Mia
Sister Act
Mary Poppins
Spider Man
I think I saw more... but I don't remember the others.

Ooooh! Into the Woods is good. I've only seen it once, but remember really liking it. Phantom is darn good also (one of the other HSD's was with Phantom). I also really enjoy Guys and Dolls and Godspell.
