Chapter 7
"Land ho!"
The life boat lurched about as a handful of its occupants woke up and struggled to a sitting position. Percival rubbed his eyes after taking his seat, and glanced ahead. A land mass approached, silhouetted in the last few rays of the setting sun.
"Finally." Gaius mumbled, looking rather exhausted as he continued to row. Percival turned around, and placed a hand on the oar.
"I can handle this, Gaius."
Gaius chuckled. "London boy's finally ready to work."
"Just give it." Percy snatched the oar, and stabbed it into the water. The life boat served violently, nearly throwing some of its riders into the sea.
"Take it easy! This ain't mopping!" Someone shouted.
"Sorry." Percival took a deep breath, and waited as the others continued offering advice. After a few moments, he began rowing once more, much slower.
"That's it, Percy. Take it slow." Gaius mumbled as he assumed a more relaxed position. "Wake me up when we get there."
As the island drew closer, it faded into the darkness. Percy struggled to focus on the dark outline of his destination.
- - - - -
"Report." Carlos stared at the other officers who gathered in the galley.
"The starboard decks took the most damage, but we've put out all the fires and patched up the hull and bulkheads. We will need more lumber to complete the repairs." One replied.
"Three of our sailors were killed, and there were five injuries on deck, and a few more below." Another murmured.
"Fourteen irregulars missing, four killed so far... and we've recovered all but one of the lifeboats that was cut loose." Spoke the third.
"How is the Captain doing?" Inquired the last. Carlos shot a dirty look.
"The Captain..." Carlos paused as he rubbed his forehead to conceal a twitching eye. "Our dear Salvador is safe, and none the worse, aside from his illness."
"You made it there just in time, First Mate." Came the reply, spoken in a relieved tone.
Carlos continued rubbing his forehead a few moments more. "Indeed. It is a relief he survived." Carlos paused as he regained his composure. "As we speak, the last of the rabble who did not escape are being smoked out of the lower decks, and we will soon have them either dead or imprisoned."
"And what of their leader, and the others who escaped?"
"I do not expect the latter have gotten far." Carlos replied. "As for their leader, I will tend to his fate after he has seen the terror his actions have brought onto his friends."
"And what of the Shipmaster?" A few present lowered their heads in response to the question.
Carlos bore a stern expression as he replied. "His rebellion will be dealt with most harshly, once we arrive at Spain. In the mean time, we have a stop to make before we continue on our journey." Carlos pointed at the map on the table. "We will sail west to this island where we will gather what we need to complete the repairs, and deal with the remaining mutineers."
- - - - -
"Quiet!"
The whispered warning was barely audible. In response, one of the others held his breath. Soon, all that was heard was the creaking of the ship, and all that was smelled was the sweat of the three fugitives. Nothing could be seen.
The sound of footsteps startled all three, and hands clamped around the mouth of one who nearly shouted. A few tense moments later, the sound faded away.
"Let's move."
- - - - -
Two others also wandered through the lower decks, keeping low and to the shadows. They froze as the sound of footsteps came their way. The two began to relax a while later as silence returned. Turning a corner, they found themselves nearly blinded by lantern light. Before they could react, they were grabbed from behind. Swords were pointed at the two, held inches from their faces.
"Nowhere left to run, mutineers."
- - - - -
The ambush came for the first three not long after. No words were exchanged as triggers were pulled. The shots resonated through the corridors, fading into muffled thuds by the time the sound reached Horace in the brig. He stared mournfully at the deck. Diego said nothing from the nearby cell, but shot to his feet a few seconds later as he heard people approaching the brig. Lantern light shone through the iron doors as the guard's keys could be heard scratching into the lock. The doors swung open, and two more chained irregulars were prodded into the brig, three sailors walking behind them. The guard nodded as one of them whispered something, and stood guard as the two irregulars were unchained and led to the cell between Horace and Diego.
The two said nothing as they stared about sadly. Finally, Horace spoke.
"I think you two are the last. The others got away."
One of the two prisoners visibly relaxed. A few minutes passed in silence.
"I believe the Shipmaster has a job for us." Horace continued, a glint of mischief in his eye.
Diego nodded. "Let's go over the plan. We're not finished with Carlos yet."

Yay! I get to post first!
Okay, with the memo and psych, our boss is definitely a funny fellow...wanting us to most likely kill ourselves with accusations between one another...so I'll just point out who is cleared in my next post.

Alright, according to the votes I checked...all three of the ones fired voted for me. So I'm pretty much clear by their votes. That's all the solid proof I can offer, but as we said last round...guam is also pretty much cleared due to last round's psych answer.

I agree Avi...th'ts good fer us, bad fer th' Boss...
I is putt'n in a vote for Fish...since two of them fired employees suspected him of foul play. If so, it be a risky move...but he may be count'n on th't to throw us off his scent...

I take you know Guam is cleared due to other games or discussions with her? If you both say it, it must be true.
That said, for now just a safety vote for Snow for now. Just sold my work van of 12 years and now to clear out my garage and such of the lingering projects to repair that old van.
Edit: Vote confirmed saved

Arr I be keeping me eye on fishmed. Something be off about him. I'm going to lock in safety fer now for zonahobo, but I may switch later should a better candidate arise.
Okay we can safely say Aviator is clear...so don't be joining any majorities Avi
Not sure who to vote for just yet. I dont think Fish or RG would be the boss. KB is a possibility, So I will vote for KB.

I've not really reacted much to the memos, and this round's doesn't really make anyone stand out much. I'd probably choose the secret third option of a huge cruise ship - otherwise I'm staying home. Poor excuse for a pirate, I'll grant you.
HP I am willing to join a clearing vote for KB - not sure it sounds like him, but nothing contradicts it yet.
(edited because I wrote KZ instead of KB, lol)

I think guam is cleared because she likes pirates.
It is a little interesting that the boss doesn't have any pirate favourites yet chooses a warship and likes to provoke fear.
I noticed froggy made quite a few quizzes on phobias.
Fish is suspicious but unless that's the plan I don't think we should vote there yet, as I do agree that rat is more likely than boss. I suppose perhaps we should look for boss in people who haven't been fingered at yet. If the boss has been fingered at, the rat would say something.
Let's have a look at bfft. Hasn't really said anything besides stating votes and clarifying round 2's psych answer. Would be weird for a boss to do so, but this is also his first game. Another observation, the boss put a rhyme in the memo and bfft has a rhyme on his personal message. Going to put an early vote there but may change to clear someone later.

The warship would be the last of my options as I'd much rather have fun.
Putting a safety vote on HP for now.
Adventures happen because you say yes!

It does help to know everyone's vote though in case you're fired..
I personally don't think Zona makes sense either since he's a fisherman, many of the psychs wouldn't fit. I am now thinking it's one of the ladies...

I kept thinking it's either a lady or someone fairly young. My wife has always had problems with directions and reading a map was fairly difficult for her. The problem with younger folks now is that they rely too much on computers and electronic devices. Hope their battery never goes dead when they are in the heart of a city and nothing can tell them which was to go!
Fish, you have to vote regardless of the reasoning, it's called a safety vote. As Harry says, if you put someone else in a majority, even a minor majority, folks fired will not help the cause at all.
When you Love someone, Love them with all your heart as you never know what can happen today!

This is all stereotypes, but I thought it was women who navigate because men drive?
Another thought, maps that are on computers and other electronic devices are still called maps, right? Why should we only refer to paper maps as 'map'? As more reliance is getting on electronic devices, perhaps older people can't find paper maps and struggle to use maps on such devices.

Okay, zonahobo's name is already at the bottom of the list on the voting page... don't think I've ever seen that before, does it mean a mandatory fire?
Well, it sounded like you were HP. You said lady, and gave your wife as example. You said young, and gave technology as example.
I generally don't pay attention to someone's gender, I hadn't realised we had somehow ruled out guys by other reasons.
I think it does mean mandatory fire for zona.
