Chapter 8, Part 1
Storm clouds gathered in the sky, blotting out the moon's faint glow. Percival wondered how much further he had to row, with the island near impossible to see against the pitch black sky. Fighting to stay awake, Percival continued rowing. His oar struck something hard, catching him by surprise. A moment later, he was thrown backwards as the lifeboat pitched upward slightly, landing on top of Gaius, who had fallen asleep. The grizzled seaman shot awake, and struggled to crawl out from under Percival.
"What... happened?"
"We've landed, in a manner of speaking." Someone else mumbled in reply.
Gaius chuckled. "Good job slowing down, Percy."
The nine crawled out of the boat onto the beach, some struggling to find their balance.
"Let's get inland, and make camp." Gaius droned as he plodded along the beach, still slowly waking up.
- - - - -
"Hola, mutineer scum. Did you really think you got away so easy?"
Percival opened his eyes to the tip of Carlos' sword inches from his face. He let out a shout, which woke up the others. They were all surrounded. Gaius sat up, as Spanish sailors leveled their muskets in alarm.
"Cap... Cap'n Cortez?" Gaius mumbled. A gunshot silenced Gaius, and all onlookers.
"Not quite." Carlos sneered, and waved a smoking pistol as Gaius collapsed.
"Die, traitor!" Two irregulars charged at Carlos with drawn swords, only to be felled by multiple musket shots.
Percival rubbed his eyes in shock, struggling to believe what he saw. A swipe from Carlos' blade glanced across Percival's cheek.
"Oh, this isn't a dream." Carlos laughed. "On your feet. Time to be reunited with your old friend."
Percival and the remaining five irregulars were prodded to their feet, and marched back towards the ship as the rising sun stabbed through the clouds. Its rays reflected off the ocean, blinding them. As prisoner and sailor alike struggled to focus, Carlos saw something that filled him with rage.
"The anchor... it's raised! My ship... What is happening?!"

NO one who voted bfft was fired - there were four stated votes for bfft and only two for zona - and the zonas got fired.
Let's not ignore this. Possibilities?

Well consider that zona was a mandatory. Getting rid of the 2 people who voted zona wouldn't clear anyone for that reason. So basically Carlos got away with not giving us any info that round....
We could try to clear bfft again I suppose

There were three stated votes for Bfft, two for Zona, & two votes for KB with the two voting for Zona now gone.
One of the votes for Bfft was either not truly for Bfft (or one ...or two... of them had NO vote) and the boss has utilized this to confuse us OR Bfft IS the boss and therefore was not fired as there was NOT a majority on them.
Zonahobo was a mandatory, he missed the boat.
I agree with Harry that those who voted for Zona would not have cleared anyone, so it did make the most sense if there were not three votes truly for Bfft. Plus some of you cleared Guam due to past experience, so a cleared person was eliminated.
The other thing that came to mind before Harry's comment was that one of the two that voted for KBC was clear (Cele) and if that put Cele and Who on the chopping block someone who has been cleared could be eliminated. That said, if KB was the rat, than those who voted for Bfft would be optional, and the Boss would see who it is that is their rat not. Not trying to confuse, only point out some minor details.
I'm keeping my vote on Snow. She already admitted she is terrible with maps and it seems just after she asks why the game hasn't started or moved on that the game has started or moved on. Just my thing. I'm okay with clearing her. I have confirmed my vote already.
When you Love someone, Love them with all your heart as you never know what can happen today!

Something is weird!!
4 stated votes on bfft. 2 stated votes on zona. 2 stated votes on KB. Yet the 2 people who voted zona are fired. That definitely could happen if bfft is boss and didn't get a majority.
I'm all for voting bfft this time in a clear majority.
If next round we find out the boss isn't bfft, then people must have lied about voting bfft.
edit: Then I would suggest voting KB since votes for bosses can't get fired. Also, KB had the early majority last round until I had the idea to vote bfft. I have to say that KB is also the first one to agree with me.

I missed that Who stated a switch vote to Bfft after the voting list was updated.
This does mean 4 stated votes for Bfft yet no one fired. Could mean we have liars, or those who do not care if they disclose correctly... or two voting for Bfft do not have votes, or as mentioned, maybe Bfft is the boss and it wasn't a majority.
No change to my vote right now, it's Sunday night and I like to relax, have time to think about this when not thinking about the Patriots losing!

I agree that Snow does sound like the boss for admitted being terrible at directions, but it is a bit odd to stick that out the very first round and ask for a clear. On the second round, she mentioned her favourite pirate books which straight up contradicts the psych question. Covering, if she's boss? But what for? Why draw attention to herself?
We need 5 real votes to win or clear. That means 7 stated votes. We have 8 people not cleared. Hopefully, 7 of us can agree to vote the same person. I am willing to switch my vote to Snow if needed.

There was only one vote on KB, that's out of the equation here.
It's basic, the boss is either bff or one of the people who voted for bff (along with the rat). If the second case, my biggest suspect would be HP, who is trying to lead us to a female boss for reasons I just don't see or KB, who is being way too quiet.
I will hold my bff vote for now, and return tomorrow to see what's up.

Chapter 8, Part 2
A few hours earlier...
"But, First Mate... why must we wait here in the galley?" One of the officers inquired.
Carlos sighed. "For your safety. Until the rest of the mutineers are captured or killed, I want to be sure your lives are not in danger."
"And what of the Capitan?" Another officer shot back. Carlos winced.
"He will be under heavy guard, of course."
Carlos ignored the officer's follow-up questions as he made his way out of the galley, several soldiers standing guard at the entrance.
"Drop anchor, and ready the boats. We have some mutineers to deal with."
As the boats carrying Carlos and his soldiers approached the nearby island, the helmsman watched through a spyglass. Finally, he put the spyglass down, and glanced towards a sailor who was mopping the deck. The sailor nodded, and made his way through a hatch to the lower decks.
"It's time, shipmaster." The helmsman mumbled.
- - - - -
"The mutineers have escaped!"
A guard ran through the corridors of the lower decks, his cry attracting the attention of a group of soldiers. The guard's clothing was tattered, and he carried no weapons.
The soldiers sighed as they readied their weapons and advanced towards the brig. Soon, they heard the clumsy footprints of one of the irregulars. All too easy. The soldiers split up, tracking the sounds of their targets sneaking about. Eventually, they arrived at one of the passenger berths, where one of the irregulars was cleaning a pistol, his back toward them. One of the soldiers smiled, and leveled his musket. He was startled by the sounds of several muskets readied, and the point of a sword in his back.
"Please lower your weapons, soldiers." The shipmaster stood directly behind the guard, gently prodding with his sword. The irregular also turned to face the solider, his pistol at the ready.
"This is mutiny, shipmaster!" The guard murmured as he dropped his musket and his companions followed suit.
"No, that's already happened. I'm just taking the ship back from Carlos, and saving the Capitan."
- - - - -
"More soup while ya wait?"
A few of the officers convulsed slightly at the Cook's suggestion, while one began pacing nervously by his table.
"The First Mate should have been back by now."
The sounds of combat above startled the officers, and the cook looked particularly agitated. The upper deck fell silent, and moments later, the entire ship lurched slightly.
"We are raising anchor!" The cook shouted.
"But why?" An officer demanded. The answer came in the sound of a scuffle just outside the galley. The door flew open, a guard collapsing in the doorway. Horace stepped calmly over the moaning guard, and two soldiers followed behind him, spreading out as they eyed the officers.
"On behalf of the shipmaster, are there any present who are loyal to Cap'n Salvador?"
In response, the officer who had paced about drew his pistol. The soldiers leveled their weapons towards him in alarm. The officer calmly approached, then turned around to face the other officers, his pistol at the ready.
"You heard the boy. Anyone else?"
- - - - -
"Thieves! Curs!" Carlos fumed as he ran towards the boats. He turned back towards his men.
"Bind the prisoners, and bring them aboard!" To his surprise, his men hesitated, eyeing the skies nervously. The clouds rent apart. Carlos' orders were muffled out by the heavy rain and thunder.
"First Mate, we must wait until the storm clears!" One shouted.
"Aye! And we must find shelter!" Another continued.
"I'm the Captain, and you will do as I say!" Carlos shook in rage. "No one steals my ship!"
Slowly, the soldiers prodded the chained irregulars towards the lifeboats. One of the soldiers finally approached Carlos.
"But... Captain... We won't stand a chance if we are fired on."
"Don't worry." Carlos grumbled. "They can't use the cannons in this weather, and they'll only get one shot a musket with the powder already loaded. Just put the prisoners in front."
The solider shivered, and stared nervously at the sky. Refusing to make eye contact with Carlos, he turned to his duties.
"Aye.... Captain."

Go ahead and clear me if you wish. No I don't like maps or following directions. But I do like Pirates - real ones. I've found an interest in the history of Pirates of long ago. I even posted that I made 2 quizzes for braingle on the subject of Pirates. Please check them out, do the quizzes and rate them!!! I also stated that my favorite Pirate book is Blackbeard and other Pirates of the Atlantic Coast. If you are able to find the post where I state that I hate maps, I'd think you'd be able to find where I posted about my quizzes. Hmmmmm. . . . . I will vote again for RGW4 - subject to change, of course. . . . . Been thinking about HP a bit. . . . . but by all means, clear me. I personally don't think the boss is female.

I think bfft makes more sense as a clear currently, I think originally RG and I were thinking that bfft only got 3 votes, but braingle, KB, whov and I all declared votes for her. ....Unless the boss AND rat OR someone misstated their vote, we should pursue this

Me did vote bfft last round...
I don't quite understand what you guys are deliberating...this discussion seems both odd and confusing...would someone be willing to explain what we're doing please?
Safety on HP...

What are we thinking of Fish? He's been bizarrely shifty and seems like an obvious rat, but I could see him being the boss and trying to play himself off as the rat?

We are clearing bfft...but the others were just deliberating about the possibilities of the last firings. Were the votes stated for bfft last round all real? Did someone misstate their vote? What really happened?
I'm staying out of the majority and voting on KB.

Basically in WTB you get put on the firing list for being a lemming. A lemming is someone who votes for a non-boss candidate. A non-boss candidate is someone who is not the boss yet who receives the most votes.
So somehow Zona received the most non-boss votes, yet there were only 2 votes stated for him and 4 stated for Bfft. The only possibility is bfft is the boss or 2 bfft votes were false.

I understand people wanting to stay out of the majority, but with the confusion over last round's voting, the only way to be sure about bfft is to get a solid majority on her. Otherwise it will keep coming up later and extend the game.
Certainly the cleared players can stay out of it if they like, and obviously bfftwer herself, but the rest should join in and help the team.

The other situation last round was that Whoviandeb changed her vote from KB to Bfft and it was after my last post of the round and I missed it.
I'm all for clearing now, but I will need to review options. It has been one busy week-end... calming air in the breeze now.

Agreed, last round's voting is a big confusion. If we don't get the sure clear on bfft, the boss/rat would have successfully dragged this out further.
Fish is again not really doing anything. I have to admit, when I first started, I played like fish is, whether I'm boss, rat, or employee. That is not a helpful way to play. If you're an employee, we need to count your vote.

Fish played in the FIRST game of Boss, he didn't talk much then either. Of course, he was a mandatory firing after the first round there because he didn't say anything, and obviously forgot to vote. Fish... care to input on those early days? Of course this was July 7, 2007 when this first test game started.
It was this game that got me to move into the forums and look at that and to wait for this game to move out of Beta. Up to then, I only came on this site to play Chess and I think some Checkers.

Chapter 9
As difficult as it was to see or hear anything through the drenching rain and the roaring thunder, Percival found it hardest of all to breathe. Though he was perched in the front of the lead rowboat, he couldn't imagine it would have felt much different to be dragged in the ocean behind. He only barely heard Carlos' manic screams to his men to keep rowing, and the First Mate was directly behind him, holding the chains that bound Percival's arms. That last wave tipped the front of the boat quite high, and Percival found himself falling forward, into the railing of the boat. As the boat righted, he found himself hanging off the edge, his head engulfed in the sea. Just as things started to go black, his chains pulled him back into the boat.
"You're not getting away so easy." Carlos murmured as he stared about, the angry look on his face morphing slightly into confusion. "Why are we stopping?"
An exasperated sailor behind the First Mate responded bluntly. "We have lost the ship. For all I can tell, we have been rowing in circles."
The sailor winced as Carlos turned to face him, drawing his pistol. Before the sailor could react in defense, the First Mate pulled the trigger. An explosive sound rang, but it was the thunder. Carlos stared flustered at his weapon for a moment as the pale sailor grabbed his oar and continued rowing. As Carlos' wits returned to him, he turned back towards the bow of the boat, mumbling almost deliriously.
Where was his ship?
- - - - -
The cook sat by himself on a small bench near his stove, staring coldly at the soldier guarding the galley door. Only two of the four officers remained in the galley with him.
"Yer traitors, and ye will hang." The cook growled at the soldier, matching in spirit the things he had already said to the soldier repeatedly over the last half hour. Finally, it seemed the guard had enough. He leveled his musket at the cook as the officers gasped slightly.
"Don't talk to me about being a traitor, cook. Not even your food compares to the kind of damage our wretched First Mate has caused on this ship."
One of the officers covered his mouth with a hand, stifling a nervous snicker as the cook shot him a dirty look.
"The only people who have caused damage on this ship are those filthy sea rats the Cap'n brought aboard!"
The guard raised his weapon as if to fire, then hesitated as he observed the expressions of the officers. As he regained his composure, the guard stared the cook in the eye as he approached him. "You will not accuse the Capitan to me, sir."
"Won't I?" The Cook fumed. "The Capitan is a weak, cowardly buffoon! He doesn't deserve to live any more than those ogres he brought aboard!"
Silence fell on the galley, quickly broken by the thunder raging outside the ship. The officers stood, staring at the cook, then nodding to themselves as they stood to leave. The guard and the cook never broke their stare until the galley door slammed shut. An especially loud thunderclap startled the guard. In a flash, the cook grabbed a nearby frying pan, and swung madly at his fellow crewman. The guard shouted in alarm as he attempted to dodge the blow. Moments later, he collapsed on the deck. The cook turned to leave, but paused as he glanced down at the fallen guard. He gave the guard a swift kick in the gut, and chuckled maliciously as his victim groaned. Satisfied, the cook turned to leave.
"I won't let those rats keep our ship, Carlos."
- - - - -
As if by a miracle, the storm briefly paused. Carlos wiped a hand across his drenched brow as he began to search for his ship. He gave a start as the massive form came into focus mere meters away.
"Stop rowing!" Carlos shouted, almost in a panic. His order came almost too late, and his rowboat swerved to rest alongside the ship.
"Boats to port!" A shout came from somewhere up high. Moments later, Diego peered over the railing.
"Rough seas, first mate?" Carlos growled as Diego was accompanied by a couple armed sailors, who pointed their muskets downward. A pair of officers also peered over from a safe vantage point astern.
"Pull our ships aboard!" Carlos screamed.
"Are those the terms of your surrender?" Diego shot back. In rage, Carlos yanked on Percival's chains, jabbing his pistol into the back of his prisoner's head.
"I'm not surrendering to the likes of you, traitor!"
Before Diego could respond, Horace pushed to the railing, and shouted back at Carlos with nearly equal rage. He pointed a pistol towards the First Mate.
"Ye will surrender, or ye will die before ye can hurt a hair on Percy's head!"
Carlos laughed. "Who's going to kill me, you?"
"No. He will." Horace sneered as the sound of a pistol hammer clicking into position startled Carlos. Before he could turn, he felt the pistol jabbing his back.
"For... the Capitan." The sailor Carlos had tried to kill moments before stuttered as he spoke.

"But father! You promised we would sail together!"
Salvador Cortez laughed, and nodded knowingly. "Is that all I said, son?"
His son blushed. "Not exactly."
"That's right," Salvador responded as he patted his son on the head. "When you're old enough."
"But I'm already eleven years!"
Salvador laughed again. "Only one more year, promise."
"But you said that last year!"
"I mean it this time."
In an instant, Salvador found himself falling to the ground which swayed violently, as it was now the deck of a ship. Sea foam blasted in the Spaniard's face, and he heard sailors shouting through the chaos. Salvador found himself rolling across the deck, flailing about as he struggled to find something to grab onto. A strong hand clasped his, and he looked up to see his son, now eighteen years of age. His son looked relieved.
"I almost lost you, padre."
Salvador weakly muttered thanks as he struggled to make sense of his surroundings. His focus returned, and he and his son hurried about the chaotic deck, assisting the sailors in tying down the sails.
"Drop anchor!" Salvador shouted through the din. His cry was echoed by the shipmaster. Soon, the chaos on the stormy decks gave way to order.
At once the storm cleared, a change so sudden that Salvador didn't immediately notice he was now in his cabin. He sat at the small dinner table, which was covered in maps. An angry voice sent a chill up Salvador's spine.
"How could you do this to me?"
"Son... please try to understand..."
"Am I your son?" Came the reply. "Or are they?"
"It's not like that..." Salvador stammered in reply. "You'll always be my son. They can't replace you."
"Why are they here?"
"Because they were lost. I just want them to have a chance to find their way."
"And what about me, old man? I'm stuck here on this miserable ship with you and your sentimental weakness, when I could be a Captain of my own ship!"
"You're not ready, son."
"I hate you!" Salvador's son stormed out of the cabin.
Salvador awoke alone in his berth. The ship rocked as lightning nearly blinded the Captain through a small window. Salvador stared mournfully through the window before speaking softly.
"Come back, son."

I think we're in the same scenario that we were in last round...either we need a definite clear, or everyone needs to vote on someone different so that the firings will be sure to clear at least one person. But right now, we're not in any position to do either.
RGW4 and Snow, we need you both of you to join the majority if we are going to get a rat proof clear on bfft...otherwise, we're back to where we started.

My lack of chatting is only due to real life not giving me much time to come on here and analyze what is or isn't happening. Sorry I am not a good employee that way. I'll vote bfft, and hope it helps.

With fish that's 5 on bfft. A foolproof majority needs 7, so I'll probably switch if we don't get that in the next three hours.

The fact Fish voted Zona last rounds means that Zona had 3 votes. Its possible only the boss or the rat joined the bfft vote, which would make bfft and zona tied so it doesn't give us as much info as we thought

Harry, I saw Fish's comment the last time I signed in today and this made me stop my action of changing my vote to Bfft. I think you nailed it on the button. The fact remains that normally, when the boss is not part of the vote It is almost definite that the rat would vote for the majority vote getter, which for last round was Bfft; heck, it's the rat's job to do that. It also made me think that if the rat did in fact vote for Bfft last round than Bfft is not the boss. Sorry, it is the logical thing about that vote. Fish's comment, though illegal beings it is after the round is now a part of the game anyway as many of us saw this... begs the question, why did he think it was silly if two people were already voting for Zona? Now I am thinking too far into this.
I kept my vote where it was at. I took too long to post, so I will end now.

Both rounds RG and snow refused to join bfft vote. If one of the boss/rat joined bfft, I'm thinking one of those two is the other.
Snow drawing attention to herself makes her sound like rat, not boss. But can't figure out whose boss.
Now RG makes the logical statement that the rat voted for bfft. If RG is boss, would he say that about the rat? I'm assuming the boss by now knows who rat is.
If RG is actually rat, saying rat joined the vote for bfft, would hide the that boss actually did. RG claimed a vote for snow before anyone voted bfft so he didn't get a chance to do his 'job'.
Too many ideas, nothing really fruitful...

Thank you Braingle01, in my eyes, you are the rat.
By the way, RG is such a wrong way to address me, it is stated by many, even in this game, I am not offended, can I make this clear?, I am just curious why shortening a name short of something that seems logical, is not used. In your case, how would you like me to call you Bra? Point is, do not cut off someone's name at the wrong point. I do cut off people's names on this site too, but I would like to try to at least cut it off at something that means something. Hi WHO? Her name goes onto Deb, the only issue here is that I know another Deb on this site, at least Who is somewhat complete. Bra... do not take this personally, I just know all of us on this site would like a little more, call it respect; but to a point where who you are talking about is at least somewhat complete. RGW... fantastic, as you have all my initials included... my dad would be happy. But you would never hear any complaints about RW, even RGW... the # is incidental. Randy... even better, that is me. RG, just leaves something to the imagination because no one ever called me by my first and middle name in my life.
It has been a very long day. I started early this morning working on my house in preparation of selling it. Part of that was crawling through an opening about 10-11 inches high by 20 inches wide. I am in my early 60's, weighing some 230 pounds and this was a very tight spot. Once in, the height was no more than 16 inches and I had to rewire three things and remove two circuits of knob and tube wiring... my chest hurts tonight. Maybe it went to my brain. Like I said, do not take this personally.
I am my father's son... his fourth. I had/have 3 brothers before me, each, were named with the initials RGW, making me #4.... RGW4. I am PROUD of that. I am fantastically happy to be called RANDY, that is my first name. RGW1 passed away in early 2015 (3 years and 5 days ago, so I am a bit emotional about that) however, I will always be #4, even if I outlive #2 and #3.
I guess it is time for bed... I mean this with all my heart, no offense to anyone. Today was long, #1 was on my mind. Something hit me wrong, tomorrow... another day! Arr, We be sailing strong again!

Sorry RGW, I will address you as that from now on. I'm afraid I have been missing the posts where you state how you got your name and I had no idea what they stood for. Calling me 'Bra' of course is a different matter. Anyone would know not to call someone a piece of inner clothing.
