Dark Queen
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
The queen of death; she crawls on your stairs,
She's always so lonely, no mate in her lair.
Her children, they leave home with such haste
For fear that their blood this new mother will taste.
On silken cord, her daughters await,
For men in their homes meet a similar fate.
Dark as new moon, her crimson belly tells time,
Her mate is passed on, he won't tell of her crime.
If you see the black maiden, you must run in fear
One prick from her needles and pain is quite near.

Hint
Remember Miss Muffet, what gave her a scare,Except bitten by this harmful lady, you'd need hospital care.
Answer
A black widow spider.Often found under stairs, in garages and other dark places.
She searches for a mate, and then kills him to provide sustenance until her children are born.
Her children leave her, because black widow spiders tend to eat anything, including their offspring.
Her poison is not generally fatal but is very painful and requires hospital care.

GAA!! I hate things! Good teaser anyway! I got a straight answer without looking at it!
Thank you so much Timi!
I got the idea for this as I was sitting on my back porch trying to write a different teaser, and I looked up and saw a giant Black Widow on my steps. I'm really arachnaphobic though, so I am surprised that I actually wrote about it instead of running and screaming.

This is an awesome teaser. Beautifully written. It was easy for me, though, as I live in AZ and they are very common here. Excellent job!
Yikes!

Great poem! Even though I got it by the time I read the first line, it was a good teaser. Good job!
Really creative riddle and teaser! But, irish, I am absolutely terrified of spiders! Even little tiny ones will make me leave the room until someone kills it. I really wouldn't want to meet up with your spider!
Thanks Froggy! Actually I am terrified of spiders too, so after the Black Widow on my stairs inspired me, I screamed for my husband and he squashed it.
Well this was pretty easy. The red belly pretty much gave it away for me.
Well written but way too easy, boring alert! boring alert!
i don't know why, but i guessed the fiddleback.

I HATE SPIDERS AND BUGS OF ANY KIND!!!!!!!! i was getting better with them, but NOW i'm CREEPED out. I once wouldn't get in the car because we were going to be in there for eight hours, and outside there was a SWARM of love bugs and some flew in. (and I started to cry)
wow
the poetry is amazing (this could be a school project!)

Excellent! But, this could cause those of us with arachniphobia to have an 'arachnolepic fit'...the frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web!
I thought this was a brilliant teaser. Althought I am from Ireland I got it straight away from the first line. It was easy but excellent.
P.S. I love some of the other comments, quite funny

Nice teaser. I got it, but the hint almost gave it away
You know, dodo birds on ice skates would have been able to breeze through a teaser like that. Try to think of something harder next time.
very easy, but nice presentation,,good job

Good one, but hated the comment that your husband killed the spider. Who knows...that little creature may have held the secret to finding a cure for cancer??
Sorry to be such a downer, but I think killing anything is wrong!

I was really impressed with your poem until you said your husband killed it .now its one of the worst
Yay!!! I got one (the riddle - not an actual black widow)
Beautifully written.
Beautifully written.
Great teaser Irish
I've been fascinated by Black Widows - ever since Alice Copper sang about them
But you raly shouldn't have had it squished though

i also got it quite early but this is very creative. I didnt need the hint but it did help me to advance to BLACK WIDOW spider....CONGRATULATIONS! ITS TEASER OF THE DAY TODAY!
Llama Llover, how do those skates fit?
Yes, this beautifully written teaser was easy, but you don't have to be insulting.
I really think you need to work on that negative attitude you have. When was the last time YOU submitted a teaser?
Irish Thistle, your creativity is admirable, especially in light of the fact that you are afraid of spiders! Nice job!

Well, my rednecked sardonicist, the skates are more like snowshoes, so they strap on easily using adapter cables. They're like a very good brand of Spam- one size fits all. Even dodo birds.
very very easy it's like the only one ive ever gotten. haha but i liked it (maybe cause i actually got it )
Very nicely writen, great teaser. Keep them coming as i enjoyed trying my hand at this one.
when I was six I was scared of spiders but now I squish them.
Very good riddle! BUt sooo creepy!
I knew what I was reading about, and my skin just crawled...
I hate spiders!

Hmm, I got it with the first line. Maybe it's because my dad married one, sad to say.
How did your dad marry a spider? bubt anyway great teaser
I knew the answer before you even submitted the teaser. But it was cute in an arachnophillic admiring the influential power an organism bearing an unsegmented abdomen can have on a phobic as yourself. Pretty soon you will have an 8-legged pet and I see you at PetCo buying live crickets for your "widow" to eat. Be careful, when she gets tired of old food, "new meat" will put her in the mood. Hahahahaha
Great teaser!! I knew it was a Black Widow by the 3rd line!! And, Having lived in Arizona in the past I saw a lot of them Excellent job!!! More please!
Took me about 5 minutes then it struck me like a flash SPIDER yuk. well done my friend.....
Great piece of poetry I thoroughly enjoyed .. I'd say you have the widow's profile down pat. Armed with flashlight and stick, checking the kids outdoor playhouse and toys at night was one of my daddy duties. Fortunately, this spider is reclusive unless protecting her eggs.. we have plenty in Arizona but bites are pretty rare .. Great job!
its ok but i thought you were talking about a goth person. i dont have anything against goth people, i just scaned through it and the black queen and dark showed up a lot to me so i thought it was about a goth person other wise it was great! good job!
How very easy!!! I'm not sure that this would even qualify as a teaser. It's way too easy.
i trought it was very good
Sorry, but this teaser was too easy with too many clues. Less clues and it would have been much better.
Knew what it was as soon as i read the hint. Very good, though, and original!
This was amazingly well written...I might just have to use this in the future! This is in my favorites because of the excellent poem/riddle! Excellent job!
Crimson belly was the dead giveaway.
this was easy for me.
The poetry is superb!
great job...way to go...bravo

I, too, was a "first liner". But the descrptions were so lovely to read that I didn't mind. I have to go back now and check the hint.
that was easy,but fun
Woohoo, I finally got teaser of the day!
Thank you everyone for all your great comments, and thank you Redneck_Woman.
For those who are wondering there are a million more black widows where that one came from here in the desert.
Llama_Lover, thank you for your comments, I look forward to reading your teasers - just as soon as you submit some.

In answer to Mollerd - my dad didn't marry a spider, but he married a BLACK WIDOW, God rest his soul.
Very nicely written I also live in Arizona. I have a yard that begs spiders and all other creepy crawly things to come and play. I've married a KNIGHT who daily defends the walls of our castle with flashlight in hand (the dark queen is a night owl) he stalks our country making it save for small visitors or our realm (kids are so inquisitive). I hope I'll get inspired to write a teaser some day. 4 now I'll enjoy yours. Thanks
Easiest teaser ever published! Still one of the best because of the superior prose/poetry. Well done!
This was well written, even though it was really easy. I got it!!
What is a Black Widow Spider (The answer is)
I really enjoyed this one Irish...
Beautifully written teaser Irish! Ireally enjoyed this teaser. Great Job!
nicely done i lked it
hehe i got tat one and it was awesomes
Wow. Very well written. I actually was picturing a human maiden in my mind. But then I looked at the hint and I reread it and got it. Once again very well written.
My narrowing...
The queen of death; she crawls on your stairs.
Carpet? Tripping? Nails?
She's always so lonely, no mate in her lair.
A living thing for sure- animal most likely.
Her children, they leave home with such haste
For fear that their blood this new mother will taste.
A blood-drinking living thing... Vampire bat?
On silken cord, her daughters await,
For men in their homes meet a similar fate.
Okay, I'm starting to think scorpion/spider...
Dark as new moon, her crimson belly tells time.
Got it! Hourglass!
Her mate is passed on, he won't tell of her crime.
If you see the black maiden, you must run in fear
One prick from her needles and pain is quite near.
Confirmation. I am a genius!
