I think you are mixing up your Nursery rhymes, there is no "Mulberry bush" in the song "Pop goes the weasel" http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/weasel.htm
and in the nursery Rhyme "The Mulberry bush" the words are "here we go round the mulberry bush" not "All around the Mulberry bush"

but what exactly **does** "pop goes the weasel" mean? Is this another "Ring Around the Rosey (sp?)" rhyme (which was actually a tune about the plague, or something like that)? yikes lol

I got it although I never understood the song. And what was with the "penny for a spool of thread a penny for a needle. That's the way the money goes. Pop! goes the weasel"? What does that have to do with a monkey chasing a weasel around a mullberry bush of all things?

LOL....CUTE!
We used to recite this s: 'All around the mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel, the monkey stopped to pull up his sock, pop goes the weasel'.
Kids would sit in a circle and one would run around the outside. When we get to the bit 'pop' the runner would tap someone on the head who would then have to get up and chase and catch the runner before he/she gets back to his/her seat. Easy teaser!
