Draw Me
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
I've been drawn by the artists these days, and of old;
Yet I'm seen only when all around me is cold.
For most of the time you just live and ignore me;
Then you gasp for me, stop for me, mutter below me.
You might say, in surprise, I've been taken away,
But it's true I've been with you, at least 'til today.
When I leave you, you leave too!
Who am I?
Yet I'm seen only when all around me is cold.
For most of the time you just live and ignore me;
Then you gasp for me, stop for me, mutter below me.
You might say, in surprise, I've been taken away,
But it's true I've been with you, at least 'til today.
When I leave you, you leave too!
Who am I?
Answer
BreathEveryone draws breath, and it is seen on icy days.
We breathe subconsciously, but might gasp or stop for breath. We mutter "under our breath" at times.
We might say our breath is "taken away" but we have it as long as we live - until we "leave" this world!

Intreasting way of thinking anyway, great teaser!
Like!
at first i thought it was snow or maybe rain...
Great teaser. I said oxygen but same thing, although breath is a bit better.
At first I thought it was an evergreen tree because we only notice them at winter (when its cold) and we gasp at beautiful christmas trees.

Thanks, everyone, for your encouraging comments - always welcomed!
Great one! As expected from you, dalfamnest ;)
good one i thought it was snow because aritists draw it in the winter but still good
Brilliantly written answer. It fits on so many levels. Best riddle I ever read!
Very good teaser. Well done, Congratulations and thanks for posting.
It's always nice to get one.
easy but very fun
Very well written! Thanks for posting!
I love a gettable riddle!! Well done, and thanks.
I had to read it twice, and even then I was stumped. Great riddle.
Great Riddle. Best I've seen yet! I guessed snow, but breath is much better answer.
I thought the answer was a painting, but what do I know. Great teaser!
Thanks everyone - it was fun to write, and I'm glad you've enjoyed answering it.
Very well written teaser.
Love it! Although I didn't get the answer.
Super riddle, although "who am I?" rather than "what am I?" at the end threw me! Good job
hahaha.. mine is "air" hahaha..
It was the bit about muttering that gave me the answer! Great riddle, truly.
Nice and simple.

I am with those that thought snow, but knew that was not right. The first line was confusing to the rest of the whole. Oh I know artists draw breath, but it just not seem to go with the rest. Just my opinion.
I was stumped till the last line, and then It came to me. Great teaser.
As with others, I too thought snow at first but then by the end came up with the correct answer.
i am puzzled by the poster who said we only notice evergreens in the winter...they are huge trees, how can you not see them during the summer months too? It is not like they disappear. Deciduous trees are easier to see in the summer when they are full or green leaves or the autumn when the leaves are a bright fire of yellow orange and red, but that does not mean they are not noticeable during the other months.
Overall, an enjoyable teaser.

Seeing some of these comments, I am surprised more people don't know the expressions the author was alluding to. That does make a difference! I enjoyed it-
I thought the same as you did, Maggie! I liked this riddle - and it was easy for me. Not bragging about it - it just hit me right away! Thanks for posting.
The first line threw me until I read the riddle a second time. Nicely done.
Easy yet fun!

Love this one. It's super easy, but extremely well-written -- conceptually as well as artistically. It's hard to find a poetic riddle on this site that is actually written with a regular rhyme scheme, and with proper meter.
I was surprised by the number of comments regarding alternate answers. I had the answer from the word "gasp." I decided to check comments to see if anyone had alternate answers. wow that was a surprise. Liked it!
Nice, fun, well written teaser, & not 2 difficult, thanks!
A bit too easy. But "artists draw me"? I didn't get that part.
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got it very quickly.
