Cryptography
In Cryptography teasers, a phrase or expressions has been encoded in some way (frequently by replacing letters with other letters). You need to figure out the encoding method and then decode the message to find the answer.Cryptography
These are quotes from George Carlin, one of America's most popular wise guys. Can you decode them?
Both puzzles use the same code.
Q=M
"DPKLSUQ SU D ORO-TYRTKLP RYMDOSEDPSRO."
"'S DQ' SU YLTRYPLJWB PKL UKRYPLUP ULOPLOHL SO PKL LOMWSUK WDOMADML. HRAWJ SP FL PKDP 'S JR' SU PKL WROMLUP ULOPLOHL?"

Yeah, first to comment! That was agood one but I wasn't able to decode it Nice job!
I never was good with cyptography and this was no exception. Good teaser, just not my favorite. Thanks for posting, though.
Not my bag of worms, but I guess it's good if you like this type of teaser.Sorry.
I normally don't do too well with cryptography puzzles, but I was able to get this one. Good job! I liked the quotes, too.
Great teaser, I too am a fan of George. I love this type of puzzle and do them in the paper everyday. Thanks for posting. Great job.

Not good at this, just gave up

Awesome, funny , intelligent guy.

Now, I liked that one ... cryptos are my bag. The Q=M was a help, but I didn't need the hint. Thank you so much ... keep 'em comin'.
I don't get it at all. The code makes no sense to me and there are only 20 letters Help
Hi smarty Look at the first word in the puzzle "DPKLSUQ" and the first word in the solution "ATHEISM"
Now look at the code: D=A, P=T, K=H, L=E, S=I, U=S, and U=M.
Convert the letters in the puzzle using the code and you see that the first word coverts to "ATHEISM"

Thanks SweetPotato I get that part. I can convert the letters if I have the code. But how do you figure out what the code is in the first place? Are you supposed to figure out the quotes first and then back into it? I feel like a dummymummy instead of a smartymarty
I really stink at cryptography, so I couldn't tell ya if this was really great or awful.... loved it anyway, thanks for posting!
I guess there doesn't have to be any logic to the code--you just pick whateveryou want at random. I tried two others. No 528 was easy. The code was just numbers assigned to the alphabet in reverse. Then I did a new one, number 40554. I figured it out, but it took a long time. I could see which words were probably, the, I, a, is..., and took it from there. I identified the vowels before I checked the hint and stuck with it till I solved the whole thing without looking at the answer.
Smarty, it looks like you're getting the idea. There are countless different codes for cryptograms. The trick is to find patterns that convert to articles or pronouns and such ... once you find the solution to a given letter, you can change that letter throughout the puzzle. It takes practice ... the more you do the better you get and the more fun it gets.
Thanks for the help SweetPotatoe. I'm thinking it might be easier to make up a crypto than to solve one.

Oh come on guys think outside the box theres a way simpler solution. Just Google "George Carlin".
It is easy to make up your own cryptogram, more difficult to solve one. I have always loved them and am quite good at it. You need patience more than brains. Anyway, I loved it and solved it. Also loved George Carlin since he was a young Hippy Dippy Weatherman.
I really enjoyed doing this cryptogram. It was challenging, but I got it after a while.
I have to say though that I think googling for George Carlin quotes is a little like cheating yourself out of a challenge.

I do not do these kind of teasers as I have no idea what is expected and so do not even try! Not my cup of tea! Sorry!
I'm with Babe.
Simple....no hint needed. Next time save the hint for those who need it, please
Didn't get the solution but it is really funny!
im new to this whole gig, how would you go about discovering the message if you are only given Q=M?
