I've heard this classic riddle a 1000 times, still good though
but it doesnt take place over 1 day
i hear this one like every day (not literally) but i still like it
yeah-the whole "morning, afternoon, evening" thing doesn't work for me
it should say something like
what first walks on 4 legs, then 2, then walks on 3
or maybe i'm just crazy
i dont know. . . .i'm tired. . .

This one is the oldest ever. The only joke/riddle that I can think of that's older is "knock knock" "who's there" "boo" "boo who" "aww you dont have to cry." Well boo you, that sucked.

I had no idea what the answer was, but my friend answered it with ease.
If the morning/ afternoon/ evening thing is still eluding you, this is what is known as a "metaphor".
The nice people at Merriam-Webster tell us that a metaphor is "a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them."
So yeah, it's when one thing is used in place of another because they're alike in some way.
Picture the human life as a single day, where the morning represents infancy, the afternoon represents adulthood, and the evening represents old age.
cl..click...BANG!

wouldn't the four leg answer part be wrong since humans only have 2 arms not 4
I never heard that, why isnt it under a catagory for metaphors.
What has that answer got to do with morning, afternoon or evening?
Hahaha. Very funny,
maybe it was all about time, like thew morning is early in life, evening is later
I agree with troydunn and deepsea-this is a classic.
Special thanks to Subtox for explaining metaphor. Sad that is was needed.

Can someone tell nude how the answer is a human? As far as I know, I've never had 4 legs as a baby. I had 2 arms & 2 legs that I crawled on, but not 4 legs
Dumbest Riddle ever. Morning, Afternoon and Evening doesn't make sense. The stuff doesn't happen on one day. Also, babies use their hands and knees, not feet. And a cane is not a foot. But besides that, it makes total sense.
