Brain Teasers
Places Around the World
Group
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.Group
Aviva was planning to take a trip around the world. She liked names that were similar to hers, so she made a list of places she would like to visit.
However, one of these places doesn't belong. Which one is it?
Arrawarra, Australia
Caraparac, Peru
Daba Qabad, Somalia
Krape Park, United States
Nagubugan, Philippines
Oktahatko, Florida
Ilokano, Polynesia

This was pretty simple. But, it was nice to see the different places in the world that are palindromes!
fun and easy
very good
very good
i love palindromes. my kid loves them too. This one was easy enough for my kid to enjoy it! thanks
Very Fun! Very Easy after the Hint!
Thank you for this one!

Florida is a State, whereas the others are Countries.
Good teaser although fairly easy.
Wow, I totally missed that one.... I guess my brain isn't working too well this morning! =O
I thought it was Florida, because its a state while the others are countries....?
Great easer! Kinda easy, but still really fun!
Very easy, but really clever. It must have taken some real research to come up with all of those places. Well done ! Thanks.
I liked it. Witty, but easy. Good to start the morning with
Nice teaser. And I got the right answer. Thanks for posting.
i thought Florida is a state
I loved it--very creative with obvious research! Well done
Fun, but too easy... There's another place with a palindrome name: Neuquen, Argentina
I like this one
It's common to identify cities with their countries in less populated countries and cities and states/provinces in places like the US, Canada, and China. Also, Polynesia isn't a country either.
WOW
I got the same answer because all of the other ones have at least 2 a's in the city...like her name
thanks, everyone!
Nice one! However Polynesia isn't a country and Ilokano is in the Phillipines!
Poorly constructed puzzle. There are two reasonable alternative answers. First, "Krape Park," because it is the only location that doesn't consist of 4 syllables. Second, "Oktahatko," because it is the only location specified to be in a state rather than in a country. But I'm just irritated because I totally missed the palindrome connection.
And that's what I get for not reading the puzzle carefully.
I liked that one - clever! It was easy for me - and enjoyable! Thanks! Hello to KiPA!
I won't say this is another repeat, because wordmama gets mighty upset at me for saying that. So I will say this is another do over.
Good one!
You made me LOL, doehead! Thanks for the acknowledgment, regardless of the spirit in which it was meant! But that's right; I'd not seen it before.
As for a "regular" comment, I got the right answer but missed the palindrome aspect, only noticing that first and last letters were the same; do I get 1/2 a point??

It made me smile, thanks
Awesome
Righteous teaser !!!!!!!!!!!
Gave it a TOPS rating.
And ... I'll be back in less than an hour with the first results of our "comments" survey.

I too thought it was Florida for the same reason as the others. Hmmm!
The time is 4:45 (USA CST) and there are THREE Braingle members shown on your screen as "on-line" with 397 non-members for a "snapshot" total of 400.
This is the LOWEST reading we have obtained in two weeks of taking them.
More info coming.

Make that 4:45 a USA CST Wed Jul 16 (in order to be complete & accurate).
Sorry 'bout that.

Got it. I wonder if she brought her kayak?
Got it.
Pretty easy, but fun none the less.
It couldn't have been based on Florida being a state as part of the teaser says she likes things liker her name. Whether the city was listed under its country or state is irrelevant to her name.
I see both ides to the constant repeat debate. While it is true that certain members may not have seen a teaser before, the long time members have seen some of them 5+ times..
That does get tiresome.
According to the FAQ: "The Brain Teaser of the Day" and "Featured Trivia Quiz" are picked randomly from a list of the most popular brain teasers or quizzes that have not yet been picked."
"That have not yet been picked" by the site's own rules, these repeats should not be happening.
But, to paraphrase WM - they are new to some

I'm glad it was easy, I'm running late.
Aren't we all.
Although I - occasionally - find myself "running early" ...
... and that irritates folks almost as much as "running late" ...
Is there such a thing as "running on-time"??
If there is I, certainly, cannot attest to having been there.
But - (I can imagine) - that annoying some people just as much - (not to name any names, of course) ...

This morning I didn't get it; in 2011 I thought it was easy. Guess I'm not as smart as I used to be!
Although I'm new at this website, this is the first brain teaser I have seen that involves a palindrome.
I understand that older members might have seen this more often, but I still think that certain brain teasers have some added value because of the (little?) amount of research involved.

.... little ?? ......
Howz about NONE !!!!!!!
Hiya Knightingale. Welcome to Braingle. I think you will enjoy it here but be careful about being TOO critical about the LACK of critical thinking, here.
It could be fatal.
Have fun !!

Cute teaser, a little on the easy side.
I didn't remember it until I saw my earlier comment. After a couple of years they are all new to me.

""That have not yet been picked" by the site's own rules, these repeats should not be happening. "
So true, so very true. But Jake (the owner/operator of this site) will tell you that ...
"the software does this. I have nothing to do with it."
If such be the case (and if he does not have such as a sub-routine in the software), why don't you suggest to him that he hire a developer to write in a "manual override" (flaging Jake or some "editor" for intervention) to abort such events?
That would be something that MIGHT increase the survival chances of Braingle ... instead of all of us just carping about it ... or carping about something else less meaningful.
But ... of course ... you have vowed to NEVER "read me" again ... so I guess I've again wasted another few dozen liters of breath on a "truth" that goes un-aborning.

Enjoyed this fun, easy and entertaining teaser. I got it fairly quickly although it was very challenging.
Wicked easy, but still a lot of fun. Good teaser!
This time I got it. So you can repeat it some other time because apparently I forget that I've seen it before! Fun teaser - thanks!
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got it very quickly this time.
