Brain Teasers
Vacation Activities
It was vacation time, and so I decided to visit my cousin's home. What a grand time we had! In the mornings, we both would go for a jog. The evenings were spent on the tennis court. Tiring as these activities were, we could manage only one per day, i.e., either we went for a jog or played tennis each day. There were days when we felt lazy and stayed home all day long.
Now, there were 14 mornings when we did nothing, 15 evenings when we stayed at home, and a total of 9 days when we jogged or played tennis. For how many days did I stay at my cousin's place?

I'm kinda lost on this one.
Could you explain how you got the number?
This is how the splution was arrived at in my opinion:
of the 15 idle evening days, 5 had morning jogs and other 10 had idle mornings. That leaves with 4 more idle morning days on which tennis was played in the evening.Any other combination will not meet the stated conditions as it will either have more tennis and jog days or more idle evenings or mornings

Actually solving this is just a matter of three equations:
x + y = 9
z = 14 + x
z = 15 + y
where z = the number of days, x the number of jogs and y the number of tennis (may have x and y messed up, can't see the teaser while commenting)
x + y = 9
z = 14 + x
z = 15 + y

Let x be number of jogs and y be number of tennis games. Therefore x + 14 = y + 15 so x = y + 1. In other words there is one more jog than tennis. That means 5 jogs and 4 tennis. Either way, 15 + 4 = 14 + 5 = 19.
Not a bad little problem.
