Brain Teasers
Leg Travel
A horse travels a certain distance each day. Strangely enough, two of its legs travel 30 miles each day and the other two legs travel nearly 31 miles. It would seem that two of the horse's legs must be one mile ahead of the other two legs, but of course this can't be true. Since the horse is normal, how is this situation possible?
Answer
The horse operates a mill and travels in a circular clockwise direction. The two outside legs will travel a greater distance than the two inside legs.Hide Answer Show Answer

Check your math. With that explanation your 'normal' horse seems to be unnaturally large in my eyes. The Trojan horse would have paled mightily in comparison.
I checked the math, and unless I made a mistake this teaser is fine. If you assume that the horse's width at the legs is 2 feet, he would have to walk in a 60 ft circle (with the outside legs at 62 ft). After 420 revolutions the inside leg would travel 30 miles and the outside leg would travel 31.
...that's a 60 ft RADIUS circle, by the way.
I apologize about the math. However, I still contend that the horse is not 'normal'--afterall, 420 revolutions have got to have a dizzying affect on the poor horse. (I hate it when I'm wrong
could be that the horse travelled 30.500 miles with the front legs and 30.499 miles with the back and then there was rounding.
Good one. I kept on splitting the legs into "front" and "back" legs instead of "left" and "right" legs, so I came up with the answer that the horse was walking sideways along the circumference of a circle! :-)
kool! luved it!
hard!
hard!
My Answer Is Sort Of Like johnnyonline's Answer. I Thought That Maybe The Horse's Front Legs Walked 31 Miles But The Horse Stopped So The Hind Legs Only Walked 30
Excellent teaser!!!

It's an OK teaser, but it should be in the situation category, though.

I agree with patchacutec. how could the horse be normal if it worked in a mill. if it walked in a circle, the horse is bound to collapse due to dizziness. why would a horse be walking in circles in the first place. well this teaser was one of the more difficult ones. how did you come up with this one? or did you just make this up?
Why would it be in situation? It is pretty straight forward, and doesn't require much reasoning, and can be answered without asking any additional information questions. I thought this one is a great teaser, and accurately categorized!
That is soooooo sad! Poor hose...where's PETA?
i don't really understand this brain teaser
I liked this one! Very cool! But very hard to me!
If the horse is in a mill and walking in a circle, then it would end up right back where it started, and the net distance traveled would be zero.
Very good one! I was thinking of a carousel horse where the front legs moved in a vertical circle.
I used to see mill horses in my childhood in Turkey. Poor horses, but they were well cared for and switched out over the day.

I thought this one was really easy, it took me at most 5 seconds to get it....but it is cute. And imaginary horses don't get tired so I think the horse'll be alright
You people actually take the time to check the math on these things? Lol i'm just kidding i like this teaser i want to see some more like it
this was taken straight off a mindtrap card
