Brain Teasers
Before the Rest
When I get there before the rest I get a nice surprise,
But all the rest that follow me see nothing 'fore their eyes,
And though I may be trapped and caught and held there in your palm,
There's another couple of me somewhere else, that you might harm,
For if your aim is true or if you are a lucky shot
With a rock, another pair of me, though dead, is what you've got.
Now fit the clues together and decipher this short quiz,
From the lines of rhyme seen up above tell me what this thing is.

Answer
"A bird" would get you full marks as the answer to this prose,For the early bird gets the worm as everybody knows.
Kept as pets and trained up well, birds are nice, although,
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush (though I do not quite know why that's so).
If you've had fun and had to think this poetry has shown
That by reading through this riddle you've killed two birds with one stone.

brilliant
Another good one. I got the answer from the first two clues but I couldn't figure the third ( I was thinking a dead duck). Now it's obvous!
Great one! I liked the way it rhymed so well.
very nice
Maybe too many clues...but still a great riddle
I really liked the flow of the words. Good teaser.
OMG! What is the matter with the people above me? Do they really think palm and harm rhyme?? As a published poet I have to say it is the worst attempt at poetry I have read in some time, plus the meter is so far off I cringe. Sorry! As an artist these things get to me. As for the teaser it was easy, but fun!
From where I'm from Babe, palm and harm DO rhyme.
As for the rest of your comment, please keep in mind that people submitting brain teasers and riddles to this site are more than likely NOT published poets (I'm not) or published writers of any kind for that matter. We're just average people who enjoy contributing to a fun site, so it would be really nice if you could keep your feedback a little more upbeat and helpful, and less scathing. As a published poet, I'm sure you can appreciate how demoralising a harsh critique can be. We can't all be artists like you.

@Snaps I totally agree with you. People do not come here to be graded. They come for the enjoyment of these games. At least I do.
BTW, I really enjoyed trying to solve this poem. I didn't solve it, but I enjoyed it none the less.

I liked it. From the title I first thought something with music but the correct answer came easily for me.
wonderful, a lot of thought went into this pretty little poetic teaser. Bravo !
I had fun reading it aloud to try to get it-didn't succeed, but definitely liked it & understood once I saw! Thank you, snaps, and it's nice to see current feedback from the author!
