Brain Teasers
How Many are Left?
Anna has 4 guns with 5 loaded clips, Bobby has 3 guns with 5.5 loaded clips, and Chuck has 2 guns with 4.25 loaded clips. During a day of target shooting on Scoutman's range, Chuck shoots 3.5 clips, Anna shoots 3.25 clips, and Bobby shoots 3.75 clips. At the end of the day, how many guns still have loaded clips?
Assume that each shooter shoots all bullets in a clip before starting to use the next one.
Assume that each shooter shoots all bullets in a clip before starting to use the next one.
Hint
Count the clips, not the bullets. A loaded clip has 1 or more bullets in it.Answer
Anna has 1.75 clips left, so she has 2 guns with loaded clips. Bobby also has 1.75 clips left, and thus has 2 guns with loaded clips. Chuck has 0.75 clips left, so he has 1 gun with a loaded clip. So the answer is 5 of the 9 guns still have loaded clips.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

My firearms instructors would go ape over the word "clip" being used instead of "magazine", lol. Saying "clip" bought me the opportunity to do push ups a few times...
Why is it rated so difficult?
I've seen many below 2 question marks that can throw me off, but this is lemony fine.

Well, rows, since I am an NRA certified Instructor, I give you permission to use the word "clip" in any of my classes that you take.
I also don't understand the difficulty rating. I had no problem getting the answer. Of course, I do target shoot and can beat my military husband in both accuracy and size of groupings. Still, I enjoyed this teaser.
I didn't like this one. It was ridiculously easy and boring. Why would it be rated amongst the more difficult?!
I thought it was easy as well Good Job though. I guess I would be doing push ups though, around here they are called clips
I'm sorry about it but I would have to dissagree with the answer. I believe most people would start with a full clip as that would allow them to fire longer without reloading and let them have more fun doing so.
cuch has 4.25 clips and shoots 3.5 . his first 4 clips are full with a 1/4 clip unused giving him a 1/2 clip and a 1/4 clip this is the answer I got when I did this .

*chuck* sorry think faster then I type and jumble letters sometimes
You could always chamber an extra bullet too.
Yes, achnid, that is possible. But your answer is still a total of .75 clips. I trust you see my point? I will explain, but not if I don't need to. Wouldn't want to bore people.
Got it, but had to do two calculations since it was not specified that all remaining clips were inserted in the guns. Since there were more clips than guns, obviously some clips were not in guns originally. If full unused clips were not inserted in guns, the answer is three.
