The germs must have FLOWN. You could say the germs FLEW down the FLUE...
Dictionary.com describes FLEW and FLOWN as being the same and thus both are acceptable grammar in this sentence.
That's not the way I read the dictionary.com entry. It looks to me like FLEW is the imperfect, FLOWN is the past participle. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Flew = Past tense of fly
Flew = Past tense of fly
I was agreeing that "flew" is the past tense of "fly." After the phrase "must have..." you don't need the past tense, though; you need the past participle. This is like "rose" is the past tense of "rise", but "risen" is the past participle. So you can say, "I rose for work at 5:30 am," or you can say, "By half past 5, I had risen for work," but you cannot say, "By half past 5, I had rose for work." The imperfect and past participle can't be used interchangeably.
The term "Must have flew" is still correct, regardless
"must have flew" is GARBAGE! Totally unacceptable.
The words "boor" and "bore" are pronounced differently.
