Brain Teasers
The Hundred Foot Tree
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Vic, a seven-year-old boy, was at the park with his mother. He climbed to the top of a one hundred foot tree. His mother called to him, "Come down here, Vic." He jumped from the top of the tree, landed uninjured on the ground, and ran to his unconcerned mother. How did he land without hurting himself?
Answer
The tree had recently been uprooted from the ground by a tornado and lay sideways. It was only eight feet or so above the ground.Hide Answer Show Answer

8 feet above the ground? When I was five I jumped off a play structure less than four feet off the ground, and broke a bone. 8 feet is a bit high for a seven-year-old
Eight feet is a lot for a seven-year-old!
I thought the tree was growing by a cliff with branches over the edge, the boy just jumped back to the top of the cliff

8 feet for a 7 year old?!?! wow.
8 feet for a 7 year old?!?! wow.
that would mean that the tree was 8 feet wide. no tree is 8 feet wide!!
My mom would DEFINITELY yell at me if I jumped from 8 feet off the ground.
Even 8 feet is too much for a 7 year old
Obviously beyonce123 has never seen a giant Sequoia tree!
Yeah even vertically 100 foot Sequoia tree would be too high for 7 year old to jump from safely. I guess they jumped wearing a parachute.
