Brain Teasers
The Getaway
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Tom was driving down the road when his brother, Tim, called. Tom answered the phone and told Tim that he had just seen a robbery and was trying to catch up to the getaway car. The reception was bad and the last thing Tom heard was Tim yelling "Remember to get the license plate number!"
Tom had a notoriously bad memory. It seemed the only thing he ever remembered to do was clean his car. He kept it spotlessly clean, which is why he had no paper, pencil, pens, or writing instrument of any kind to write down the license plate.
However, when Tim directed the police to Tom, Tom was able to give them the accurate license plate number.
How?

well done! especially for a first teaser..i didn't get it actually..i thought maybe he punched it into the clock on the radio..even though that's not COMPLETELY logical...ironic though..my cell phone is my LIFE you think i would have gotten that one keep more coming!
Smart guy, that Tom.
Nice job. As soon as I read cell phone, I knew the answer before I read to the end. Sounds like something I would do. Entertaining but easy.
that was nice and ez
it was very easy, but i liked it.
the hint gave it away.
Wow that's confusing...Next time use names like Bob and Alex...Not ones that are so closely related. I had to reread it about six times before I even understood what was going on.
LOL punk rocker
Tim & Tom are actually the names of my brothers
Tim & Tom are actually the names of my brothers
yet another good one
Another solution: Tom could have exhaled onto the driver-side window and written the plate number on the window with his finger. Then all he'd have to do is fog up the window again to see the plate number!
heehee good answer!
btw: thanks all, for the nice comments

Actually, the plate was easy for even Tom (or was itTim) to remember because the plate read IMA CROOK
i liked it
i agree with u, punk rocker. great joke, annie.
Quite Fun...i didn't get...i thought that maybe he turned the radio dial to that number or something! if i thought about it long enough i might have got it. Really creative, and fun
you go girl! That was a winner! :
what about license plate LETTERS? i mena, thats a great place to write down the license palte if its "928343" but if its "DFH8153" thats a little different... and if youre gonna say he punched it into contacts (aka - where you put the names in your phone book) dont you think its a little hard to hit the right number the correct number of times while driving quite quickly to catch a crook?
Luckily for Tom, the license plate number was OH24ONE (the crook was a bargain shopper!)
seriously, i never thought of the number/letter combination.
seriously, i never thought of the number/letter combination.
lol annie9698 - in Australia where I am there are only number/letter combinations (unless you want to pay big bucks for a personalised plate).
i assumed that he had written the license plate details in an sms to himself (i don't know what the phones are like in America though)
But has no one ever told you what a dangerous thing it is to drive and talk on a mobile phone at the same time

As sweetime, i assumed he just wrote an sms in the agenda. Keep them coming!
good job.
Annie great first teaser! I expect some more good ones from you really soon.
This was a good one and it is possible to store numbers and letters in a cell phone. Without the hint I would have been lost on this one
Yeah...I had to use the hint...
