Janus
What rebus is shown by the pair below?
harp prah
harp prah
Hint
Think of a different word (similar meaning) for either of the words above. Then look at the direction each of the words in the pair is turned. The title is also a hint.Answer
Two-faced liar.(two-faced lyre)
A lyre is a type of harp. And the word *harp* is *faced* (turned) in two directions.
Janus, from Roman mythology, was the god of doorways and passages; and is depicted with two faces on opposite sides of his head. We now have a contemporary word, Janus, describing (usually) anybody who is duplicitous or deceitful (two-faced). It also has a less-used connotation of somebody who is both *coming-and-going*.

That wouldv'e been super-fun if I would have known what a lyre is.
Is psyche the only one commenting on these besides me???
That was a good teaser.
Not so sure I wanna go with that "weak" mythology though.

Good Job! I got the mirror image of harp, but i didn't think of two faced. I definently don't know mythology, so the title didn't help.

Yeah ... this one was kinda' weird. I'm also working on one called "lyre, lyre, pants on fyre", but I can't seem to find a meaning for "fyre". Huh ??
Oh, well ........
(and my cat, Clint, keeps yawning at me whenever I attempt it. His yawns are always mixed signals, so I don't know WHAT to think)

an interesting factoid - Janus is also used to symbolize the beginning and end. as in a doorway being the END of outside and BEGINNING of inside, so we have another, mildly related term that I'm sure everyone has heard - January. The end of the old year and beginning of the new.
ok i have a question...who is KB123...i have heard about this person but i have no idea who it is....pm me if u can help me pls...btw liked the teaser
hehe i enjoyed this one.
and despite the fact that i've read a book that uses the "it's a harp" "lyre" pun i *still* didn't see it.

The Janus bit was a piece of cake, but I don't associate harp with lyre at all.
