Brain Teasers
My Name From A God
I'm the smallest of my kind, no doubt about that;
Compared to my brothers, I seem like a rat.
It's awfully cold here, with poisonous snow.
My name came from a god, a god with great might;
Although you know of me, I'm way out of your sight.
What am I?

Answer
The planet Pluto.Stanza 1: Pluto is the smallest planet.
Stanza 2: The snow is a methane and nitrogen snow that is poisonous to us.
Stanza 3: Pluto is the Roman god of the Underworld (Hades in Greek myths). Pluto is too far away to be seen from Earth (without a telescope).

Nicely Worded Teaser!
Sorry...I didn't like this one. It was a bit hard for me.
Good teaser.
Pluto does have methane snow though (kind-of like precipitation)

I was thinking one of those blue-ice packs you store in the back of the freezer...i guess i was a little off lol

nice easy but totally awsome
yes i was right
I got it right! The riddle is awesome, and I wouldn't have got it if our class hadn't just learned about all the outer planets.
Had no idea....guess I need to study my planets
ez... but t'was fun
Good teaser, although I thought it was Neptune. The 'blue' threw me off. I thought Pluto was only a 'rock' with no precipitation.
got it. it was a bit too easy....
Nicely worded. It made me think for a couple of minutes. I first thought of the blue ice you put in the freezer, too, but I knew it didn't have a "god" name. Thanks for the good work!!
ditto what daffy said
good one spooky nicely done but a trifle easy

I believe I saw this one on here about a month ago.... Anyway, it was way to easy...
A decent use of words to convey a common theme in braingledom
Thought of everything except planets. Good teaser.
the rhyme was really nice, but i was just clueless!!

Nice - I'm a geologist and really enjoyed it. Took a minute to figure it out!

I liked the poem and facts. I was trying to figure out a blue planet, but I didn't think it'd be pluto. Nice job!
Neat Teaser!

I frogot to mention that it was a very well written WHO AM I teaser!
I didn't know any of that. Very informative. I liked it.
I was convinced it was Titan.. close enough
Knew it!
This was very nicely written, well thought out. Thanks for posting.
I got this one just days after another riddle with Pluto as the answer, ergo this was very easy. Well written.
Pluto is not blue. It's more of a brownish color. See here for a true color pic: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap010319.html
wow i got it!! but i think its just because there was a pluto teaser just a few days ago...it was fresh in my mind! good one!
Initially I'd guessed Pluto, but then I recanted because Pluto is no longer a planet!
Good teaser, even if it is a little outdated now. ;-)

Too easy, and I agree, a bit outdated. For those of you that are unaware, Pluto is no longer our 9th planet.
I thought of Venus, because I thought Pluto wasn't a planet anymore!!!!
yea i dont believe that pluto is the smallest or farthest away in any category any more. also not blue, which forced me to think it was neptune, the smallest of the gas giants
"Rat" got me stuck on trying to think of an animal - and where in the world was "poisonous snow?" And of course, it wasn't in THIS world!
Good one!

Pluto's not a planet anymore!?! They can't just take back something our teachers ingrained into us from kindergarten! Wait a second, it's happened many times...
(I really did know scientists changed Pluto's status)
(I really did know scientists changed Pluto's status)
Easy because the poisonous had to be on another planet. Pluto will always be a planet to me, just like St. Christopher will always be the patron saint of travellers to me. Thanks for a good one.
I thought is was Neptune. Smallest of the outer planets now that Pluto is a planatoid and not a planet. Also, not so sure Pluto is blue. Neptune is however.
I agree nolonger a planet, should have posted this one a few years back.
This teaser was written when Pluto was a planet.
Hmmm...at first I thought it was Mercury because that's one of the smallest planets...but then the blue thing...that's when I got it.
I eventually stumbled upon it. Good teaser!
Good teaser. But Pluto is not considered a planet anymore so calling it a planet would be a misnomer now.
Ah, the good old days, when Pluto WAS a planet...
I don't see a recent date, but didn't we see this one not too long ago? My head may be in the clouds, but I hope there are no clouds in your next few days. If there are, may they all have silver linings! Wishing you sunny days, dear friends!
I said Neptune. Now that I think of it Neptune is pretty big.
This is a sad day for the editors, there head must be stuck in the mud. This was just on within the last two weeks.
Pluto is not blue. It is brown. See: http://goo.gl/HBxbJ
I thought of Neptune. I thought Pluto was named after Mickey Mouse's dog. Plus I did not know Pluto was blue. I always thought it was a brownish reddish goldish color.

Pluto's not a planet. It's part of the kuiper belt.
Whatever. I got it easily, but it is a repeat.
I hope your weather is better than what they are predicting for us. Snow showers coming tomorrow.

Haven't seen this one before but a few days ago there was another riddle with the same answer, Pluto.
Oct 26, 2011
yes, I am afraid that events have somewhat overtaken this answer. Pluto is no longer one of the planets, and Hubble has shown Pluto to be brown, not blue. Neptune is the smallest of the gas planets, it is (very) blue and composed largely of frozen methane. It is named after the powerful god of the sea.
I love Greek and Roman mythology. My friends and I are crazy over mythology.
This is a nice one, quite cute too
well done
This one was so easy that I thought I must have done it before, but did not see my name above so I guess not. That makes me feel good that I got it so quickly. Thanks for posting. A really good one!
This one threw me with the rat clue, so I was looking for an animal at first and then the snow killed that idea, so I figured it had to be a planet. The only blue one I could think of was Neptune, but that wasn't small. I looked at how old the teaser was and finally figured out that at that time Pluto was still a planet. Needless to say, I didn't find this to be easy-peasy!
Good one. Thanks for posting!
Easy teasy. Honestly, not my favorite. I found the rhyme a bit forced.
I'm confused... several people mentioned "blue", but I don't see blue in the riddle. I only see one line about snow in stanza two. Should there be two lines there?

There used to be a third line that referenced "blue". The second stanza was:
A blue face have I, a blue face, you know;
It's awfully cold here, with poisonous snow.
