Trick brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy.Trick
How many verbs are in this sentence?
I once saw a man in Arkansas, who had a saw which could out saw any saw that it saw saw; the man said, "Have you saw a saw that could out saw the saw you saw in Arkansas? If you have saw a saw that could out saw the saw you saw in Arkansas, show me the saw saw."; when he said that I saw a saw, I said, "Yes I did saw a saw in Arkansas, and what a saw I saw, that saw saw!!"

D!@#, that was good! I spent abou 3 minutes counting every verb and split verb in the entire paragraph before I realized it was a sentence i was looking for and even then it was quite puzzling indeed.
YOu got me!
Sat here counting like a goof ball!
i think i saw the saw you were talking about and boy can it saw
good riddle
good riddle
That one was really good! It wasn't until I remembered that I was reading a riddle in the 'trick' category that I realized counting all those verbs would lead me nowhere, lol!
wasn't hard, but fun it was
i was sitting here expecting some big # of verbs. now i feel like a complete idiot.
i assume you're talking about the word "verb" in the first sentence, rather than actual verbs, because i couldn't see any verbs, although i will admit that my knowledge of verbs is nicely limited to a "doing word"
Like otrhers, I tried counting all the verbs. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Where's my coffee??
d'oh! I saw a lot of verbs in the second paragraph - got suckered into counting them too!
Good trick.
Good trick.
i hav a question,,,, if it was such a good trick, y is the "popularity" down?
That was a great trick
Me being me, and me being lazy, I took into the account that it was in the Trick category, and immediately clicked on the hint.

OOoh good one!
I thought it was none because there aren't any actual "doing words" in the first sentence... but technically the word verb is definitively the word verb so yeah..
CUTE!
Any way, congratulations, your teaser just got on the radio in New Zealand.

Very "clever". I was pretty appalled by the spelling in the sentence about saws, though.
And no, the word "verb" isn't a verb, it's quite patently a noun. The word "are" is a verb, even though it has three letters(!).

I just thought you made a mistake and wrote "sentence" instead of "paragraph"
i did not make a mistake, i did, however, mean to make it a "paragraph" so my hint will still make u guess
That was a good one! I started counting verbs, but then I peeked at the hint and got it. Good job!
Oh man, I got that one completly wrong. You got me. I feel crazy in a funny sort of way.
I was counting ALL too!! Then I cliked on the hint and I knew what you were talking about. Almost got me!
i've seen this riddle before, its a god one, but i still didn't count them the first time i saw it.

Nice riddle. I was just about to start counting the verbs when I looked at the question again and got it. It looks like you caught out a load of people, though.
Ouch, got to 25 before I read the hint. Think I missed the answer by a few! Nice teaser!
Good one! I got through the whole thing, then I realized that it was in the Trick category, and looked at the hint. Then I got it.

I was sitting here trying to figure out which saw is the verb, and then I looked at the hint.Got me good!
that is so old my grandpa told me taht a long time ago! Gey with thenprogram
if it is so old, y didnt u make it?
funny, me like.
Bigswaff, don't give a hint next time, everyone always looks at the hint too quickly. Then they judge the teaser as being easy.
Not sure why that is, but count how many of the comments note looking at the hint. If so many looked at the hint why is the difficulty higher?
Good job.

it was a very good teaser but the hint made it way too obvious. Good Job though
ty for all the comments, im tryen to get the hint removed. YA MAN, I HAVE 32 COMMENTS ON THIS. im better than all of u HAHAHAHA
Good job but the hint gave the answer away
dont u people know to look at the hint AFTER u think of EVERY possible answer? or cant think of the answer in like 5 min.!!!! (it dont matter, i think it is getting removed...the hint not the teaser)
Well SWAFF, I see you fooled a lot of people! But ya didn't fool me! I caught the first sentence because it was separate from the paragraph. And no, I didn't look at the hint until I was sure of the answer. Very good trick teaser. I really enjoyed this one. Do more of these - everyone seems to like them!
some people are just too guilable.
(hey) by the way, look up, i just wrote an 8 letter word on the ceiling
(hey) by the way, look up, i just wrote an 8 letter word on the ceiling
Yo, you got me big time. I'm sittin here counting all of those "saws" for nothing! Doh!
What do you not udnerstand?
"How many VERBS are in this sentence?" is what it asked. The whole "I saw a saw in Arkansas" is pointless.... this is a trick. The question asked "how many verbs" the word "Verbs" was stated once, making the answer one.
If u have any further questions, just ask

I thought it was 0. I was looking for "verb" in the paragraph. It was fun to read.
The hint should have been more subtle. But even without the hint, I got it. But since you made so many people waste their time, I gotta say, well done.
i tried to remove the hint, but it got turned down or what ever.
that was great... by the way, i look ed on tha ceiling---where is the eight letter word?? all i see is spiders... OH MY GOD!!! SPIDERS!?!?!?!!?
I feel really silly, I counted every verb and then I looked at the hint. It was a really good one though.
I'm glad taht I read directions pretty well..otherwise I'd been counting the paragragh like the others ...good teaser!!
WOW am I an idiot. Trick teasers should be judged on how much time they make you waste. I rank this one perfect.
I SAW not that one coming
I sat there and counted them like a fool and then i read the hint. STUPID STUPID STUPID...yet highly entertaining.
I looked at the hint which by the way is way to revealing so i didn't count the saw's like other people
I was counting on my fingers!
That was a great one!
That was a great one!
isnt saw a verb?
If used correctly
Saw, noun, is like a saw, a tool for cutting
Saw, verb, is like "I saw you over there"
but you new that....I hope.....
But the question asked, was "how many verbs are in THIS sentence"
the word "verb" appears once

BOO-YOW I got it. although i must say this there were some gramertical errors in the i saw a saw in arkansas paragraph. some of thoes saws should have been seens, but i understand why there were incorrect. it just bugged me
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh its a secret, your not spose to notice the errors....
Woohoo, this is the 74th best Trick, wait....is that good?
Thanks for all the swellorific comments!

You'd think I'd learn what "trick" means by now.
Agree with previous comment - number one teaser for making me spend time counting.

Great!
Oh wow I went through the whole thing and counted! I got like 11 or something! That is a good one BigSWAFF! And the part I counted was even more than one sentence!!! Ugh!
I saw (no pun intended) one similar to this one, not a dupe, but similar. It was a little easy, but still an original trick in the book. Good job, obviously you've learned a lot in the teaser bussinness since this one.
That was easy for me but I liked it. I catch on to the trick ones quicker than all the rest
Good One!!
Hint gave it away instantly
I agree with facr_1, but before that I was totally clueless why this was in the 'Trick' category. I was thinking, "It can't be that simple. There must be something else." But like an idiot, I didn't see it until the hint. Nice one!
I was about halfway through the sentence when I realized it, and screamed out ONE! All the people around me thought I was retarded. They may have been right.
...
But yeah, I liked it.
...
But yeah, I liked it.
I knew it was in the first sentence, but I thought the answer was the word "are".
That would be such a great tongue twister. =)
i started looking for them and then thought if i know my tricks well enough, it will be a different sentence
I was halfway done with the huge paragraph when I reread the instructions. Great.
P.S. A lot of the grammar in the paragraph is wrong.

I actually got this right...OMG!!! I got something....the world must be coming to an end......*walks outside..* nope....
Wow, that paragraph was craaazy!!
OH MY GOSH

Great trick question.I have seen these before ,so it was a no brainer.
Just so everyone knows, are is the verb in the target sentence. I can't believe so many of you posted "I couldn't find any verbs."
i decided to read and enjoy the tongue twister :-)
I thought that's what it meant.
You got me, that's for sure. I counted and counted saws (14 I think) but I like the correct answer better. Thanks for posting.
Good one!
The thing to remember is that it is a trick question. It was easy once you looked for a trick answer.
Hint gives it away
o well
o well
i counted 19 verbs in the paragraph. What about you??
dang, i got fooled , good riddle though
The answer is the same whether you're counting the word "verbs" or actual verbs.
I counted all the saws, too. I didn't notice that it was a trick question!!!
Your riddle contains a punctuation error. If you mean to speak of the word "verb", it should be placed in quotation marks, which would then give away your riddle immediately. When speaking of words as distinct from their meanings, the current convention is to place them within quotation marks. Without quotes, while you thought you were speaking of instances of the word "verb", you were actually speaking of verbs themselves.
Way to be a Debbie Downer....
i was counting a the word in the paragraph and then i read it carefully and i was like awww S***!!! it that sentance
Easy, but fun. I got it after reading the first sentence, but that's probably because trick is nearly the only section that I go through.

I just want to point out that it was a question not a sentence.
I feel so dumb now for trying to count all the verbs...
There were ZERO verbs in that sentence, because the word "verb" is a noun, not a verb!
I was not about to waste my time counting those verbs so i did get the answer... lol how long did it take you to come up with all that?
