During a visit to a mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criteria is that defines if a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub. Then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask the patient to empty the bathtub."

My guard was up becasue I I knew it was a trick, but as I read the teaser, I thought what would you do with the water once you took it out of the tub with either a sppon, teacup, or bucket? Asking that only confirmed pulling the plug. Great teaser! I love it!

well..it is important to to tell how hot or cold the bathtub water is; then you can act accordingly....

You do realize that wasn't a choice? I mean, it is bad enough that they waste our time with a terrible riddle that only deserves to be on the side of a cereal box, but also that you all think it is great and funny.
It's not a choice! They gave us three things to choose from. Not three sugestions, three choices. Then when we take one of the choices, they essentially call us stupid because we didn't choose a fourth option which they never presented to us. Thank you for wasting my time.

I stared at if for a moment, and kept thinking to use the spoon to help me pull the plug. I just couldn't let go of the fact that I only had three choices to pick from.

This one isn't a very good teaser. The idea is interesting, but the semantics behind it doesn't make much sense. You are told to use EITHER a spoon, a teacup, or a bucket. You aren't given the option to pull the drain plug. Any normal person with a shred of common sense would choose the easiest option out of three options they are given. If you were given the option to pull the plug and still choose a spoon, that's when you may have some problems. With the options GIVEN to you, choosing the bucket is perfectly plausible!

I expected the answer to be some variation of removing the plug. However, since pulling the plug is a task that can be accomplished much more easily with a spoon than with a teacup or a bucket, a case can be made that "Spoon" is the best of the three available choices that were offered.
