Not trying to be too critical here but there is an error to be exact.
It says all cars are picked up by 5:30 and that diagnostics take at least 20 minutes so if Tom drooped off his car at 5:15 the earliest he could pick up his car would be 5:40.

I ment 5:35.
Unfortunately, as brainbuz said, there is no answer to this. Tom could not have dropped off his car for a diagnostic, which takes 20 minutes and pick it up by 5:30. That clue throws off the rest of the puzzle...
What i should have put was at most no at least meaning that it takes 20 min. or less so i am right but thanks for pointing that out.
I have 2 things to say:
1) Brainbuz is right.
2) Unless I read the answer wrong, Laura's time isn't shown.

it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the last time is for laura
This teaser was easy to do even with the mistake(which wasnt that big of a mistake). Good teaser just get someone to proof your next one.
I got messed up by the 20 minute comment as well, which essentially made it such that I could not have solved it. There are also several unnecessary clues, and some that are vague. For example, just because the transmission takes the longest, doesn't mean it is necessarily the first one in. I of course assumed it meant it was the first, but assumption is not logic. Thanks for the effort!
a lot of assumptions needed to be made - like the fact that hilary likes space mean that she drives the spacey SUV (just 'coz one likes space doesn't mean one has it) - same with colours.
i also had trouble working out cars, especially after the clue that tom (i think it was tom) liked expensive cars....i have no idea what half those cars are, forget how much they cost!!

There are many unnecessary clues in this logic. Also, there are too many assumptions to be made. In logic there are no assumptions. The comments about Tom's time is correct. He could not have dropped his car off at 5:15 for a diagnostic that took a minimum of 20 mins.
Ok - It's not just the 5:15/ 20 minute problem. The puzzle states that Laura does not have a car at 12. To me, that means she either dropped the car off at 11:30 and still doesn't have it back, or it was not available for her to drop off until after 12. To me, that clue rules out 12 for Laura. Also, Chuck has a 10 minute lunch at 11:10 and gets back to school at 11:55. To me, that means he had to have something quick done to the car. Otherwise, how did he get back to school? The clues for who had which car and what color were TOO easy and for what was done at what time were TOO confusing.
i hate these teasers and there was a mistake in it!!!!!!!!! how could u get that approved with a mistake in it?!?!?!?1
im sure that if drussel was here he coud get this lol...drussel if u read this im just pickin on u for fun lol... hows ur engineering going?
I agree with all of you. How did this teaser ever get approved? The clues don't match up with the answers given, the grammar is terrible, and there are a lot of asumptions that have to be made. I'd read some more logic-grid problems before making another one if I were you.
I solved it, but with a different answer than given in the answers. Maybe the rest of you could check this: Does it work if Tom and Hilary's times are swapped in the given answer? I think it does.
I didn't realize the Chevy was supposed to be a big car (they come in all sizes, after all)...my assumption was that Hilary had the VW since that could be a convertible with no top (non-claustrophobic?) All in all, confusing...
This is the first logic-grid I've filled out where I only needed the top line of box grids. I also had a problem with the assumptions in the puzzle as I see others did.
Yes, I got it with tom at 12 & Laura @ 5:15. Wish I knew where I could get an alignment in 15 minutes! Or, maybe I don't
I also put Hilary in the VW.
Excellent effort! Just needs a bit more.
Snaps for Akilah!

Could have been a great teaser but had WAY too many vague assumptions...
The expensive car thing..??
Hilary's claustrophobia..??
How does Chuck get back to school... I thought he took it in after school..??
The 'change' Tom saw in his car could have been due to any one of the faults..??
Laura's messed up tyres..??

i only got the part about the thing the car needed. but that was because people who don't know about cars (like me) wouldn't know that about cars. but overall, a good teaser.
Errrrrr, ok i think i agree with everyone else everything was vague and you had to assume. Sometimes it was just there faovurite colours and other times it was everything was red. It also had some reallly pointless clues. How did this get approved???
There were some errors and some vague clues. Laura not having a car at 120 made me think she dropped it off before 12. I thought you could not drop a car off for diagnostics if there is only 15 minutes left until shop closes. I got all of the information correct for the more well written clues. I had to give this a fun for effort, but it's not that well written. Sorry.
someone should correct this...whoever can, please do.
this could have been a good puzzle if it was correct
Atleast after reading all those comments, I am relieved that I am not retarded !!! Phew ! I thought I was losing it and there was somethign I was missing. I am not a car buff either and I never understood the claustrophobic thing, I thought one of those cars were top down or something, but dont know which, so I kinda got stuck. And yes, the 20 mins thingy too....
Wow. I'm glad I finally read the comments. I knew I wasn't that bad at math! I'm surprised this teaser is rated as highly as it is.
This seems to work for me
Tom Lexus Blue Diagnostic 120
Vicki Honda Red Oil Change 4:30
Hilary Chevrolet Purple Tune Up 5:15
Chuck Toyota Black Transmission 11:30
Laura VW Buggy L. Green Wheel Alignment 1:45
#1 Tells that Tom couldn't have a Toyota
Vicki couldn't have a VW
Hilary couldn't have a Honda
Chuck couldn't have a Chevy
Laura couldn't have a Lexus
#2 Chuck's car is black
#3 Tom has a Lexus, the only luxury car
#4 Hilary's car is purple and is not a VW Buggy, the only small car
#5 Chuck has a Toyota
#6 Vicki's car is red
#7 the only time that Chuck could have dropped of his car is 11:30
#8 Tom's car is red or blue and can't be red because Vicki's is red
#9 Tom took his car to be looked at ie a diagnostic
#10 Vicki high milage = oil change had to be 4:30 or 5:15
#11 Tom couldn't go at 5:15 because there wouldn't be time for a diagnostic
#12 Laura doesn't have a car at 120 so she couldn't have dropped off then
#13 Hilary couldn't have dropped of her car before 10
#14 Vicki had to be at 4:30 because there wouldn't have been time at 5:15
#15 Chuck had to have the transmission job at 11:30 because it took the longest
#16 Laura needed the wheel alignment because she was always messing up her tires

I hope that everyone understands that when I put a : and a 0 together it showed up as a
120= 12 o'clock
10=1 o'clock etc.
10=1 o'clock etc.
Nice try but at the end of the day the puzzle just didn't work. Too many assumptions to be made.
All I switched was Tom and Laura's time.
If someone is actually able to edit this puzzle so that it makes sense and is solveable without assumptions, well, my hat's off to them!!!
Well, I submitted a correction for clue #11. As for the assumptions and vagueness, I can't do anything about that, unless the clues are rewritten, and i would just mess up this puzzle trying.
Just a note to Akilah, One cannot logically assume that the smallest car is a VW Bug, as there are Chevrolets, Toyotas, and Hondas that are the same size (I know, I've been in some). You can correct that by maybe putting a model of each car in the intro info? Just a suggestion. Also, just because a car has high mileage doesn't mean they are getting an oil change. It would be more likely to get a tune-up or transmission work. I don't know about you, but I get my oil changed every 3,000 miles (that's not high mileage). Take a look and correct this teaser. You won't get points for it, but you are the only one that can without changing the whole thing.

I also have tried many times to get a coherent result from this teaser, but it occurred to me that maybe English is not Akilah's first language? if it's not his/her primary language, I would applaud his/her effort, but echo the need for a proof reader.
Agree with a lot of the other comments - there's a lot of assumptions you have to make to get this to work. That said, I did manage to come up with the right answer. I think it mostly comes down to figuring out how a clue might be relevant and then assuming that's what it's trying to tell you. But honestly, I was unsure on so much that I didn't really expect to end up with the right answer.
