The Missing Jewels
Detective Sing arrived at the scene of the robbery of a coastal house to find a man, Mr. Jones, complaining that his jewels had been stolen. Detective Sing arranged to have him taken to the local police station to give a statement. After a quick search of the area, they found the thief not far away (he hadn't had time to escape), but he was refusing to give up the location of the jewels, and the name of his accomplice. Because the thief had been found quickly, Detective Sing ordered a search of the nearby area. The jewels were found buried beneath a beech tree.
Detective Sing arrived at the police station to talk to Mr. Jones, who was complaining that he had been left alone in the interview room for hours. Detective Sing quickly explained that they had caught the thief, and discovered the jewels.
Mr. Jones, agape, asked where they had found the jewels.
Detective Sing explained that they were found buried at the beech.
"But how did you know which tree they were buried under?" asked Mr. Jones.
Detective Sing immediately arrested Mr. Jones as the missing accomplice.

Think homophonesAnswer
Given that Mr. Jones lived at a coastal property, it would be reasonable to assume that when Detective Sing tells him that the jewels were found buried 'at the beech', he meant "at the beach". The fact that he doesn't means that he probably has an idea of what has happened to them.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

an easy one, but still fun
So, why did Mr. Jones call about stolen jewels if he helped steal them? If it was to collect insurance money, why not have the other thief get away before calling the police?
man i hate it when people use logic in these things
Ok, here's why: Mr Jones didn't want to call the police, but Mrs Jones (who didn't know about the plan) made him (does that work, or do i need to put more info in?)
or maybe....Mr Jones is just a duffer...thought the thief had had time to get away, but it took the thief longer to hide the jewels than Mr Jones thought it would...

the hint totally gave it away to me, but it was still good. I like easy mysteries.
This was the best teaser in my whole life! But I have something to say to you; I'm just confused of it ; Why would Detective Sing arrest Mr Jones if he didn't steal the jewels? Because Mr Jones acctually worked for the theif?
Good Job anyway!
Good Job anyway!
well it was meant to be so he could claim the insurance, but alas, thought the teaser was too long as it was so didn't put it in...maybe next time...
This brain teaser was REALLY cool. i liked it alot because i think it was really simple, because i love to watch all those shows like csi, and all those investaigation shows. the answer was sort of confusing, but all in all, i liked it. a little
I liked it very much (probably because I got it without the hint, for a change!); very well done.
Didn't think about why Mr. Jones would call - although, having the jewels and the insurance $$$ would be a very good reason.
Loved the "buried at the beech." Very clever play on words.

I overlooked the beech part, thought he said beach, but the owner should not have known they were burried under a tree, unless he had pryor knowledge. Was a good one though & fun.

I liked it....thought it was about right on length and enough info....but that's just me....fun though
loved the teaser and great djob on it
I thought in Mysteries, all the clues had to be included in the actual story so people who read them will have all the clues at their disposal. Mrs thief shows up a bit late in the story, making a call to the police. I thought the teaser writer took a chance, but a good chance. Just the Fact, next time, and Only the Facts.
what mrs thief?
there's only ever mr jones...
and the idea is that mr jones couldn't have known about the location of the jewels unless he had something to do with the theft.
i'm not sure what "clues" you think are missing?

Got it!
Fun but extremely easy!
Easy but fun
This seemed to be a little too simple. Perhaps it needed a red herring or something.
I got it!!!
