Brain Teasers
Subway Meeting
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A man meets a one armed man on a subway, who pulls a gun and shoots him. Why?
Answer
These two men, along with several others, were shipwrecked on a desert island and had run out of food. The men agreed that they needed to eat their arms to survive, but that if one person had to lose his arm to save them, they should all lose their arms. The men were rescued before the last man's arm was eaten; this man ran away before he could be caught and forced to give up his arm. However, he bumped into one of the other survivors in the subway one day, who killed him for not living up to his end of the bargain.Hide Answer Show Answer

hahahahaahahahahaha
ewww freaky
Which planet these men were from...? Don't seem like human beings..
I can think of another 20 answers to this problem -- there needs to be some type of hint in there that indicates what is going on. A good story, though.
Who would eat their arm??
I agree with nickdelag. Basically you're saying "A man was killed. Why?" And then we are supposed to put together this long, drawn out, intricate story. You have to put some clue into your teaser! There are a million different ways to answer this.
I agree that a teaser needs something to direct people at least in the general direction of an answer...Nevertheless, freaky cool solution! I worry about whoever thought that one up!
Did anyone read the note on situation puzzles at the top of the screen?
Sheesh!
I like this one, heard it before, though the guy got an arm in the mail, and sent it to this other guy...Never mind. Same concept though!

That is really weird. And kinda creepy.
A really weird possibility...a very remote one...but still not too bad. Points for creativity!
A little scary that an one-armed shipwreck survivor is walking around "armed and dangerous" in a subway, but definitely interesting and original!
This is the kind of situation teaser I like... one you can bring up at suppertime and your family members would guess the answer using yes or no questions by dessert and then they won't want any because the teaser is so gory!
Did anyone else notice that the person who shot the gun had no arms?
@sageowl: Pretty sure eachof them only gave up one arm.
This works as a "twenty questions" puzzle where you try to find out the answer by yes/no questions indeed it is good for that. It doesn't work as the other sort of puzzle (like the man who only takes the lift all the way up when it's raining) because there are hundreds of equally plausible answers. You could add some extra info to limit the options?
