### Brain Teasers

# Tower of Terror

Logic
Logic puzzles require you to think. You will have to be logical in your reasoning.

Swaff was traveling in an elevator, being cool, when he suddenly heard the cord supporting the elevator snap. Being the cool guy that he is, he knew of a myth where if you could jump at the right time, you could possibly be able to survive a plunge in an elevator.

Now, when Swaff was a boy, he spent all of his math classes making fun of his female teacher's moustache. He never paid attention, so he was a tad bit slow in his mathematical calculations. He did, however, have a very bizarre talent, in which he could tell the exact speed he was traveling. That came in pretty lucky today.

Swaff knew he was falling at an even rate of 50 miles per hour. When the cord snapped, he was exactly 110 feet above the ground. He knew that he must jump at the right time to have any hopes of surviving.

Now, after doing the math, please tell me when Swaff jumped.

### Answer

He never did. By the time Swaff figured out that he would have to jump in 1.5 seconds, he would already be dead. Not even the best of mathematicians could do all the math needed in 1 and a half seconds. Swaff fell to his death, only to later be reincarnated by his magical brother Geemiee.Yay for Geemiee.

awesome teaser! i thought the answer was gonna be something like "the right time"

Enjoyed this teaser Very good job in writing it.

Good teaser Swaff

I had fun not figuring it out

I'm glad you like it Cd , really, coming from you, it is such an honor

(really, even though I know your just saying that , thanks)

no offense it was really really cool, and there is no point in saying this but as a fact, jumping in an elevator does not save your life.but i say what i hear, not what i know!please dont pay out on me!

GRR! I was so way off!

I hate being wrong, but it was fun all the same.

I didn't even try to figure it out, which turned out to be the right thing to do. Good Job!!!!!

the mustache teacher and magical gennnnnnie or whatever gave it some nice flavor. (this guy got dettention A LOT didn't he?

The whole "math teacher with a mustache" isn't "fake"..... My algebra teacher has a mustache (and yes, she is a girl)

ewwwww. woman with a big moustache kinda funny though.

if the elevator falls with enough force to kill swaff on impact it would probly colapse the ceiling as well killing him either way. Also most modern elevators have secondary cables. And most have emergency brakes.

Now that was funny. Yes, I agree he was already dead. He would have been better off, trying to figure out how to match his jumping skills with the elevator's rapid decline into the shaft, than to attempt a calculation. Excellent Teaser. I like my Teasers funny. D Well, I mean your Teasers funny. :

I loved it!

It is 0.682 seconds. 1.5 is the inverse of the former. x/v=t

Good teaser.

I would just jump when I got really close to the ground!

How would you know when you are close to the ground?

Good teaser. Unless you can jump at the same rate as the elevator is dropping, you'll pretty much be gone.

haha

ANOTHER awesome teaser Swaffy. Very cleverly thought of. This, it seems, was not the end for Swaff...

Good job! Mythbusters busted that myth, but it was still a good teaser.

I got the idea for the teaser from Mythbusters actually.

That was a good one. When I figured out the problem, before I checked the answer I thought that he probably wouldn't be able to do it correctly. When I saw the answer it stated the obvious, he never would have the time, for that matter nobody would have the time.

You can't jump. When the elevator is falling, you are flying actually.

really well written story! great teaser!

This riddle is dumb. It's perfectly possible to calculate that in 1.5 seconds. The bigger problem would be that he probably couldn't react quickly enough; and that it wouldn't work anyway, because it's a myth.
