I got 38. From 1 to 9 totals 45, then each ten thereafter (10-19, for example) total 45 for the units digits, and 10, 20, etc. for the tens digits (ten 1's, ten 2's). Therefore 1 through 39 totals 240: 45+55+65+75. Take off page 39 and take off 12 from the total, and you get 228!
I did a mistake writing the teaser. You weren't supposed to ADD the digits, you were supposed to find the TOTAL NUMBER of digits. So, 1-9 would be 9, 10-99 would be 180(2 * 90 numbers). That covers everything from 1-99. Added together, they would be 189. Subtract: 228-189 equals 39. Divide by 3 (for three digits in a three-digit number) to get 13. 13+180=Wait a second-102... That is weird. Someone verify my work, for some reason I got 102...my memory is failing me at such a young age...I will work on it. Sorry for the confusion...
i got 112. it's 13+99(the last of 2-digit number).
n tammy, don't worry, ur wording of the teaser R right...coz u DID write 'they total 228 DIGIT'...
wow, really had me thinking here. i liked this one whether or not it was written right. Great job
I'm so proud of you tammy! That was an excellent teaser . Good job. I'm also proud of myself because I got that one right!!!
This is a good one, quite easy. The explanation is simple pages 1-9 = 9 digits, pages 10-99 = 180 digits, pages 100-112 = 39 digits, 9+180+39 = 228 digits, so the answer is 112 pages. You have to read the situation carefully otherwise you will be confuse about pages and digits.
Very Good! Understood the question (and got the answer) right away. Just the kind of teaser I like best. THANKS!

I hate making minor mistakes. I got 1-9=9 and 10-99=180 and therefore 228-189=39 and divided that by 3 to get 13. So on the right track but then had my answer as 113 because I forgot to count 100 :-)
I don't get it
