I knew it was a trick question
pretty easy!! but good job!
i got the answer b/c i thought you have to have a chicken to lay an egg! Great teaser!
I always wondered which did come first. Logically that makes sense. I had a "brainf..t". Very cute.

the egg came first! as stated above chickens evolved from dinosaurs and we all know they layed eggs. even the fish and earlier reptilian that dino's evolved from layed eggs. silly, silly, silly...
Chicken comes before Egg in the dictionary, too.
um hello people it doesn't matter what came first. I'd say the egg as far as science goes. But this is also a trick teaser and it is correct the chicken came first as far as this teaser goes, that and it is first in the dictionary too.
The chicken in another way, because God created a chicken at first, and then made them lay eggs.
i agree with magicalmystical..............easy, but fun. ha! i thought it was "which at first"..........
I got it right going biblically, but i loved it! ez, fun, and cleaver!!
I loved it- A great answer to the age old debate!!!
good teaser i said chicken came fisrt but 4 a different reason God made every animal first a male and female then they will make more i liked it because i was right
hummmm..i liked it...
keep them coming
keep them coming
cool one! it may have been easy but it was still fun!
I thought it would be "The" instead of "The chicken", since "The" is the first word in the sentence
Wouldn't the chicken be first so it could lay the egg?
woohoo got it right, course i was thinking cause of who layed the egg, but i got it hee hee that counts right?
Come ON people, am I the only one who remembered that this is in the trick catagory?
I knew it immediately.
I knew it immediately.
got it
also, there is another version where egg comes first. because it doesn't say CHICKEN egg, it would be egg, because chickens evolved from dinosaurs, like all birds, and therefore, it would be an egg ( dinosaur egg)
If someone mentions "intelligent design" I'm going to kill myself. Oops.
good trick but if if wuzent in the catatgory trick it would be wrond becaues the chicken comes 1st becaues god put animales on earth not eggs the the chicken had babys then a cycle strated but goood tho!
sorry a bit boring but i still didnt get it
I would've said the egg, because dinosaurs laid eggs before there were chickens =P
The chicken... It's sad that today's culture has been brainwashed by the whole evolution theory. Do you even realize that first it's just a theory... so it's not fact... secondly evolution theories change all the time... which shows that they have no idea what they are talking about. and thirdly... have you even looked at the complexions of all the creatures? and you're still saying that it all happened by chance and that creatures evolved from one another... Don't be brainwashed by what teachers are forced to teach you... It's all just a bunch of lies anyways...
The chicken came first.
First you must know that an egg is defined as what it was laid by (i.e. a robin's egg is laid from a robin, a dino egg is laid from a dino, etc).
Through evolution, reptiles evolved into birds to adapt. In the process, there was a creature that was close to but wasn't quite a chicken. That creature laid an egg that wasn't quite a chicken egg. A chicken hatched from that egg.
Therefore, the chicken came first

actually, cyber the chicken came first when he god created all the animals (can't beat that)
Oh no, somebody stop me... oh there's no one here to stop me.
I do not see how the past 150 years of scientific exploration and understanding could be so easily brushed away as brainwashing, when the prior "understanding" all consisted of brainwashing (and you can't prove to me otherwise!) Religion was all a matter of one story versus another, and about how many people believe which is true. Science is not a religion, it is a methodology that SEEKS THE TRUTH, and is constantly testing whether theories can be disproven.
The general usage of the word 'theory' implies whimsicality and guesswork, and that is the reason there is so much fighting going on in the U.S. about whether something should be taught if it's "just a theory". It's not "just a theory," it's a SCIENTIFIC theory, which means it has a lot of supporting evidence. Without evidence, it can't be called a theory; it's then called a hypothesis.
Evolutionary theories do not "change all the time". They get improved, enhanced, and more complete, not by a complete overhaul but by incorporating new information. There are some religious viewpoints which incorporate new discoveries very well, for example, saying that perhaps God created evolution, and then the egg would've come first because chickens evolved from dinosaurs.
Religion and science do not need to be at odds if everyone can just be openminded about what both have to offer.

I have to agree with Qrystal.
All in all, a great teaser, although you managed to spark up a scientific debate here.

And the funny thing is, there was an article on a paper that said that several scientific, politic, and agricultural groups agreed that the egg comes first, because no matter where you draw the line between the chicken and what came before it, DNA can only be changed between generations. An adult cannot change between species. For example, if someone went crazy and started flapping his arms all the time, would he be a chicken? no. If his son grew up with feathers and crows in the morning, would he be a chicken? Probably not, but possibly. I hope darkwonder isn't going to say that the government is trying to brainwash you through that article.
In other news, good teaser.

How about the chicken came first with the egg already inside it?
Ending the debate...
God created the unicellular organism. It all evolved from there.

All heated arguments aside, I loved the teaser! Fabulously fabulous! This is my favorite kind of teaser, always has been, and always will be! Loved it loved it loved it!

I'm sick of all you "GOD" paople trying to answer a logic question based on faith. God didn't write the bible men did and even if it's gods word it's been subject to thousands of years of interpretation, translation and therefore distortion. So to claim to "KNOW" anything with any degree of certainty is ridiculous.
And for all you darwinites stop mentioning dinosaurs. There weremillions of years between them and the chicken. The theory of evolution has a valid place in this conversation, but, if your going to use it you might try simplifying your answer to this "The EGG.It was laid by something that was almost a chicken.

It also comes first in the alphabet
The chicken came first in the question, and the egg appeared first (chickens weren't around in the time of the dinosaurs, and neither were chicken eggs, but dino eggs were)
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got it very quickly.
