Thank you for your wonderful comments! I am glad that you all enjoyed my first teaser!!
I'm pretty sure it's mongoose or mongeese...
good one, but I thought I've heard lof monggeese
strange.....and easy......but i liked it!
MOST DEFINATLY MONGEESE
The OED, American Heritage, and dictionary.com all show "mongooses" as the only plural. What's your source for mongeese?
wot about mongeeses?
I didn't know that, but it sounds like the jury is still out on here.
Merriam-Webster Online says both versions ok
Oh, well, thanks for pointing that out. I am just happy that I am getting good feedback on my very first teaser. It makes me happy....
The problem with language is that it changes according to what people want. Through common usage, if people incorrectly use a word often enough, the word adapts to mean what the people meant to say.
Warrior Poet; you are quite correct. Apparently, in the late 1800s, the word "bimbo" was applied to to not-so-clever males.
lol!
did you know that the man who invented the toilet was named "John Crapper" ?? thus the nicknames! the english language is so confusing it facinates me--and i've been speaking it my whole life! ...hospital....hospitable......is the a-word defined as anything other than a donkey? That'd be so sad...*wags finger* BAD SOCIETY! BAD!
Ah the Joy of English!
HAHAHA!!!! thats so funny
geese are cute
BTW, IMCUL4E, the person to whom you refer is Thomas Crapper.
actually, I did see that coming.
Great teaser, although U still think it is geese OH Well Loved it
[to boodler] really?? that's like the fifth time my english teacher has misinformed me! i'm not trusting her anymore...
English is such a confusing language. I thank God I learned it the easy way, from birth. I would hate to have to learn it as an adult. Just think about the letter combination "ough". Bough, through, rough, etc. all pronounced differently.
Not to mention cough, dough and borough. Any more?
...though,.........nope, that's all i got!
cool teaser
I think foreigners are much more cleverer than those of us who have English as our language; they seem to speak French or Swedish like natives!
Geese scare me. Bad memories *shakes head* bad memories.
geese make excellent watchdogs; there are many instances of their usefullness in this regard, over many centuries, going back to the Ancient Greeks!
usefulness
The only possible choice that wasn't mentioned in the title! That was the best clue.
Er...what's the trick exactly?
I have many bad memories with geese. One chased me around a pond, while the other bit my foot, just because their ducklings were following me!GRRR! Thanks for the great comments anyways!
Perhaps they didn't like their goslings called ducklings?
yes i did saw that coming....i know my plurals =)
i DID see that one coming actually lol
THAT WAS A GOOD ONE!!
A+ for this round of comments.
i had a goose bite me once, now that you mention it.....
but i saw on a documentry and they said mongeese or i might be going deaf lol! could be money geese or monkey geese hehe
Just an example of weird english.Like fish being a plural but fishes is also correct. And hair being a singular word suggesting more than its plural hairs.
like mouse = mice
and house = neighborhood

On a UK quiz (either 'QI' or 'Never mind the full stops', I can't remember) recently that mongooses is definitely the plural. Due to goose being from Old English derivation and mongoose from Hindi. But you say potato and etc.....
umm...ok
I don't see the trick...
If u have a mongoose, then u get a mongoose, right?
If u have a mongoose, then u get a mongoose, right?
this is a joke though...not a real teaser
Freddy - whatever happened to "Never Mind the Buzzcocks"? That, and QI - top shows!
Didn't like that one.... WAY too easy.
Well, kittylover, what's your version of the answer?
I saw and I ducked. Good One...

REPTILE5000- HEY, WHAT DOES EVERYONE HAVE AGAINST REPTILES AND SNAKES, I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO YOU!!!!
LOOK AT THE 2ND ENTRY HERE!!!
***YOU ARE ALL RACIST TO REPTILIANS***
The given answer is so tragically simple I was hoping for something like:
You have no geese!
[Whether the explanation is a matter of linguistics or the mongooses' appetites is unimportant.]

Had a nice laugh thinking about mongeeses.
reptile, chill, it's just ONE post.

I don't know what drugs people who think it is "mongeese" are on, but it is definitely "mongooses":
"The plural form of mongoose is properly mongooses. The common form mongeese is technically incorrect since the words goose and mongoose are not linguistically related.[3] The word mongoose is derived from the Marathi word mangus."

"Eye to eye, head to head. Turn for turn and twist for twist. The hooded cobra again has missed. Thanks to Rikki Tikki Tavi! Ah yes!"

that was pretty freakin retarded.....
It goes either way, actually.
IMCUL4E, I wish the A-word meant "donkey" to modern people. I like to use it as "donkey" and not use it the bad way.
