Brain Teasers
Disappearing Note
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A girl was writing a note in math class. On her desk were a pencil, a protractor, a blank sheet of paper, and a calculator. The teacher came near and looked for evidence that she wasn't paying attention, but could not find any. There was nothing in her pockets, desk, etc. She was guilty of writing the note. How did she get away with it?
Hint
Think about the items on her desk.Answer
The calculator was a graphing one. Most graphing calculators have a function that allows you to type letters. She had been typing out a message on it, and hit clear when the teacher was coming.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

It was good, but it would've been more challenging had the calculator not been mentioned. It would take people a while to figure it out if all that was mentioned was that it was during math class.
Good teaser. Nicely done.
we did that and the teacher actually caught us cause she was was right behind us but oh well my math teacher loves me.
Another possible solution was that she was writing a note about maths - not about her social life.
This was the first teaser I haven't found the answer to because at school my year level doesn't use a graphing calculator yet!

i thought she was guilty bcos her paper was blank so she wasnt paying attention

I said the paper was blank, so she wasn't writing math notes.
I know how to re-read those words

Wrote the note in a number code.
I thought it was lemon juice.

It's a good teaser, but it's outdated now, with the development of smartphones. A lot has changed since 2006.
