Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Some very basic information is that when on planet earth, at any given spot you can only see half of the visible stars that shine on earth. It is impossible for someone on the northern half to see the southern stars, and vice versa. Of course there are stars in the middle that are visible to everyone.
Joe Bob was really interested in stars. He often sat outside at night and tried to pick out different constellations (he never has any success, though). Suddenly, he started waking up every day and saw all of the stars from both the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere! Even though this astronomical event was happening, he knew exactly why. How is this happening?

Answer
Joe Bob isn't on earth, he's orbiting in a space craft. Joe Bob is one of the few who are gifted enough to go into space, and he has the privilege to see stars from both hemispheres.Hide Answer Show Answer

Could you just stand on the Equator? You will still see some stars from the North, and some from the South. Or am I missing something?
Ditto Bigswaff
I guessed the answer & got it right, but something bothers me about this teaser - the wording? the situation?? Maybe I just need some caffeine.
Swaff:
Looking from the equator you could only see stars in the middle. It's the same reason you can't see all of earth while standing, it's curved. I don't know if that helped or not.

wow.....that was pretty lame......i mean it sorta gives you a hint from the beginning but still...the answer was really lame......
You would still see stars from the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere, which is what the teaser asked.
If you say you can see exactly half the stars on earth, then you would have to be on the north pole to only see the norhtern stars, and on the south pole to only see the southern. Any other spot, and you can see a few of the opposite hemisphere's. Now, if you were on the equator, you would be able to see half of the northern stars, and half of the southern.

I see. I guess it needs some changin...

The fact that you used the word "suddenly" was sort of misleading, I guess. Obviously, it's not very sudden or surprising to him, since he probably knew he wasn't on earth.
VERY EASY!!!! but i really liked it a lot... it was really good. nice job....
Hmmm, nice. I thought he put a poster of the stars (both hemispheres) next to his bed, so he'd see them everyday when he wakes up.
I was thinking the same thing. Good one Tinman!
Or he bought himself a planetarium - much less expensive than spaceflight - and who would let a person who was unable to identify a single constellation get within 100 kilometers of an orbiter?Space is for the educated!
Weird, but yeah, the wording is junk!
You could go to a planetarium.
great one
Good one Tin Man!!! It was either he was in space or he put the stars on the ceiling above his bed!
