The hint was vital. #4 could have been used, or sued. DIRE is a word in its own right, so that wouldn't have been the anagram you're looking for.

i got it, it was pretty easy! but russia is a part of asia and europe, so thats a little misleading. otherwise it was pretty good!

No, the hint was not vital. It doesnt matter if there are other possible anagrams, their letters in question would not be able to form the name of a country.
