Carrie had trouble with her American History class. To remember an important fact she came up with this strange story. Can you decipher the story and find the facts?
I had a delicate china plate that I was trying to smash with a giant pen. On the giant pen teetered a Jersey cow. On the cow's back was King George, who was trying to connect his cut. He was holding a massive block of ice. On the block of ice sat Marilyn Monroe, who had an ocean liner which was headed south. The ocean liner had a bit of a problem: there were pigs with their hams sticking out stuck in the smoke stacks. Fortunately, Thomas Jefferson came on the scene to help out. He happened to be holding the Statue of Liberty; on it was a North bound ocean liner. On this liner there were some Island rodents peeping from the peepholes.

I really like this one, but, there was a mistake.
For the sentence for Rhode Island, it says something about Island rats. That doesn't make sense, because in the answer it says ISLAND RODEnts, instead of rats. But still, this teaser was good!
Yay! First one! LOL

A rat is a rodent...
Really liked it!
A little too abstract for me...
What's America?
That was tough. Those were pretty abstract objects...
I got most of the states, like, new Jersey and Pennsylvania, but some were harder like Massachusetts and South Carolina. But I liked it. it made me think!
Why have a memory jogger that is so much more involved than the answer that you are trying to remember?
Good job that her test was only on one small subject. Oh yeah, I guess there isn't that much history to study in the US.

The way it's used is that the teacher gives the story bit and bit and the students repeat it back to them. It's easier to remember the silly story than to remember the states. And there is a lot to American history, but for teaser purposes I don't think I need to write it here...
I still disagree with your suggestion that the story is easier to remember than the list of states.
That said, everyone remembers things differently and who am I to tell you what should work for you?
