Brain Teasers
Bicycle Lock
Alex, my very mathematical but forgetful friend, made an elaborate code to remember the 10-digit combination to his bicycle lock. He came up with:
A - K - B - J - C - H - D - G - E - F
where each letter stands for a different digit (0-9).
Sometimes a scatterbrain, he wanted to make sure that he would remember his combination so he wrote down this series of mathematical clues:
1) D + D + D = F
2) B / H = K
3) J / D = K
4) H + H = B
5) D x H = CK
6) D / J = H / B
7) G + B + E = F + A + C
8) A x H = KE
9) J + A = CC
10) F x D = KG
What is the 10-digit combination to Alex's bicycle lock?
>>>
Note: CK, KE, CC, & KG are two-digit numbers.

Answer
A = 5, B = 8, C = 1, D = 3, E = 0, F = 9, G = 7, H = 4, J = 6, K = 2The combination is 5-2-8-6-1-4-3-7-0-9.

Nice teaser lots of ways to solve that one.
Great! It made me make up a system to solve it. My favorite teasers do that.
Way too many extra clues. By the 3rd clue I already had 6 of the 10 letter figured out--every letter I'd gotten a clue for. So I skipped clue 4 and clue 5 gave me C and clue 8 gave me A, G & E. Never even looked at clues 6, 7, 9 & 10.
Alex must not be that mathematical afterall.
Clue 1:
D = 1,2,3
F = 3,6,9
Clue 2:
B = 6,8
H = 2,3,4
K = 2,4
Clue 3:
J = 6
K = 2
D = 3
F = 9
B = 8
H = 4
Clue 5:
C = 1
Clue 8:
A = 5
E = 0
This only leaves 7 for G.

Clue 2: B/H=K
Clue 4:H+H=B or 2H=B
combined 2H/H=K or H=K
somethings wierd no?

@ lzyaznusa:
2H/H = K or 2 = K (not H=K)
2H/H = K or 2 = K (not H=K)
