Crossing The River
Logic-Grid
Logic Grid puzzles come with a handy interactive grid that will help you solve the puzzle based on the given clues.Logic-Grid
The five friends were having a great time. It was Tom's idea to go bushwalking and they all had enjoyed it, but they were starting to tire when they encountered a problem close to their houses. Blocking their path was a river, and they had to cross it or walk the three hours back to their homes.
They decided it would take too long to walk back the three hours back home, so they decided to cross the river.
They each used a different method to cross the river, and they each took a different amount of time. By the time they had finished crossing the river it was starting to get late so they decided to have a race home.
Your job is to work out the first and last names of the five friends, how they crossed the river, the time they took to cross, and what they each placed in the race home.
First Names: Tom, Jake, Chris, Sally, Damian
Last Names: Brundwick, Thompson, Brown, Simpson, Abbott
Method of Crossing: vine, log, bridge, boat, swim
Time Taken: 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes
Placings on Race Home: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
But, of course - it would be impossible to guess so I'll include a few clues : )
1. Sally was not the bravest in the group so she decided to walk around and cross by using the bridge - however it took a fair amount of time and she took more than half an hour to cross.
2. Chris had been watching far too much Tarzan and decided to cross by swinging across the vine. This method was very dangerous, but also the quickest. Chris wasn't just a daredevil - he was an extremely fast runner and smashed everybody in the race home.
3. Tom was a hopeless swimmer but he could run pretty fast and he finished second in the race home.
4. Damian wasn't a daredevil so he ended up crossing the river safely in a nice small boat. However, the boat was rather slow and it took Damian three quarters of an hour to reach the other side.
5. Jake Abbott practiced in his swimming pool every day - maybe this was the reason he swam across the entire river in just 20 minutes.
6. The last name of the person who took the longest to cross the river was Brundwick. This person did not finish last in the race home.
7. Jake's last name was not Simpson. The last name of the person who finished last in the race home was Simpson.
8. The person who took an hour to cross the river did not finish fourth in the race home. The surname of the person who took half an hour to cross the river was Brown.
Using these clues, can you determine all of the details?

Very good teaser; somewhat confusing and fun. The 1st sentence of clue #7 is not needed.
This was a fun teaser! I just love logic puzzles. This one was not very hard... fun without being frustrating or taking too long! Thanks!
This was fun and well written, but was a little too easy. There were a lot of variables but the clues were very straightforward and didn't leave much to be figured out...
It was very well written and I liked the story and the concept (especially the vine) but it could have been more challenging.
In all, I liked it and am looking forward to another one from you!!

Nice job
I enjoyed this one. I have not been able to be online much lately and it was a nice one to start back. It did not take too long and I finished it in one try, but it was really cute and not frustrating. Please keep them coming.

I just love lots of green circles Very enjoyable. Keep them coming
Nice teaser.
Pretty much all of the clues were straight forward so the challenge was taken out of the teaser.
But, I did like the story behind this teaser.
