Brain Teasers
Pen & Paper I
Trick
Trick brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy.Trick
You will need a working pen and a sheet of paper for this one. Orient the paper into landscape form, and write this on the paper:
620 = 3000
Your challenge: Add only two lines to make the equation valid.
You cannot:
Cross the equation sign to obtain a "not-equal" sign.
Fold the paper in any way.
Draw any curves.
Place any decimal points.
Place any middle dots (for multiplication).
Use "000" as a distinct number.
620 = 3000

Hint
I am about 50% confident that this hint will help you.Answer
Draw a slash between the 6 and the 20, and another slash between the second and third zeroes of the 3000.You should have 6/20 = 30%.

Great teaser... I missed it though
Why the landscape orientation? (or was that just to confuse me? - it worked!)

Tricky indeed. Wouldn't the second slash go between the third and fourth zero in the 3000 to make "300/0"? I wouldn't have gotten it in any event, but "30/00" doesn't say anything to me.
I didn't get it but had fun trying. Math was never my strong point.
karenokupniakus- he meant the slash should go between the 2nd and 3rd zeros of the 3000. You're figuring int he zero in the 620.
I hate it when I need the hint, but there was no way I was solving this without it! Very good teaser!

you could also put a < sign above the =, making 620 less than or equal to 3000. Two lines, and it works!
i think that would only work if it was 620 - 3000.
Excellent teaser this is one of the best in a while
I like it but it wasn't that hard!
very good job. missed it but was fun trying.
Very nice job. Was out of my data base but it was fun trying.

oops! Sorry
The hint didn't help me.
yay I got it right!
Also, LeonRes-Evil2, it says "equation", not "inequality".
Got it! Twas fun but not too hard. Thanks though!
you slash the 62 with one line and the other number with 1 line
0=000
true
0=000
true
wow! i thought i had tryed all methods but not that one! good one!!!!!!!!!
62/0=300/0
0=0
also works
0=0
also works
Anything divided by 0 does not produce a definitive value. It is illegal in mathematics to divide by 0.

Correct me if I am wrng, but could you not just cross out the noumbers there and put 1 on each side?

sorry for my double post( now a triple post I guess) but I tried to correct my spelling after I hit add coment, and posted twice. Sorry.
thats four lines
How is this trick?????????????????????????????????
One thing I'm surprised none of you have mentioned, you could simply use two lines to write an "X" beside the 620, and that would make it valid. (620X=3000)
ohhh my solution was to just put the variable X beside 620 so it is
620x=3000 so x can equal anything because it is a variable in this case x=4.84 which would also make my statement true

I sort of got the answer - but it said you couldn't use dots "in the middle" to multiply - I used it to get effectively the same answer:
6/20 = .3000 (which is 30%)
I didn't think you had to use both strokes, and by the way the question was framed it seemed that it was okay to use the dot in a non-multiplication sense.
Seeing the final two zeroes as part of a % sign was difficult, though.

It also says no decimal points can be drawn.
Great teaser! Loved it! Though I didn't get it...
it also works if you put< over the equals sighn to make it less than or eaqual too
I thought that it was 620x!
i didnt figure it out but very nice!
The hint totally gave it away. From then it wasn't hard. >=D. GREAT TEASTER!
I'm really bad at math, so that was kind of hard!
Verrrry tricky! But neat!
Brilliant hint
Funny Teaser!
tricky tricky tricky
i got it right
this should be going in math
62/0 = 300/0
(infinity = infinity)
(infinity = infinity)
I GOT IT TOO EARLY BUT I THOUGHT THERE SHOULD BE A 1 IN 100
BUT STILL I DID IT AND I AM HAPPY
