That was a Great Teaser!
I didn't get it I saw the answer, then I was like Duh! should've figured it out. Anyway, great job!
thanks guys
Cute one!
Once I had counted 13 call-on-knees, it all fell into place!
Good one
I really enjoyed this teaser, LeafFan. Thanks!
thanks everyone
I really enjoyed this brain teaser. I should have gotten it quicker- my whole year in Social Studies was American History.
cool teaser leaf
Very Creative
Loved it. Figured so many of them meant something and the 13 didn't stump me for long. Loved it.
that is stupid i whant my penny back(jk i luved it)
Wow Leaf fan, I am impressed. This is by far one of the greatest rebuses that I have ever seen. You should be so proud of yourself!
haha good one
good teaser!!! I actually got it which means Im getting better!!! Good job on this one!!!
I was confused until i looked at the anwser. I would never have guessed that
thanks everyone i really appreciate it
Clever!
I really liked that . Had me confused for a minute , but that isn't hard but when I got it , it really felt good. THX I hated history.
Awesome Teaser of the day! Very good TOTD selection.
hey, I got it! I usually can not solve these teasers. but at last one I could get. Thank you for great teaser of the day.
Hmmm, it must be an American pronunciation thing. In Australia we would never say that "colony" starts with "call" - "colony" is pronounced "COLL-on-nee" but "call" is pronounced "CAWL" - totally different sounds!
Does that mean you guys make "caller" and "collar" into homophones?
I got it, but wasn't positive I had right answer until I read the hint. I have to agree with Leftclick tho. Maybe 13 cow knees would work.Good rebus.
i should have got it great teaser
I got this teaser!!! I liked it too. It was clever. And as far as the pronunciation of call, it seems it really depends on where you are from. For the most part in the U.S., we pronounce call as "cawl"
I don't think it's the pronunciation of "call" that changes, but that of "coll" (in collar or colony). To me, the "o" in these words is pronounced short, nothing like the long "a" in call.
Pretty easy if you counted the lines
Too easy! I got it when I counted 13 Call Knees.
I flunked history in school.
I counted 13 Call Knees. Didn't
clue in to Colonies. I looked at hint & gave up cause it was US
history. (I'm Canadian)Gave up too easily
Very Good Though when I read the
answer. I liked it.

Mumbling it to myself several times revealed it.
Very creative!
Very creative!
I got it! That was fun. Thanks.
Hey, "Grandma B" - I'm a grandma B., too. And I was muttering 13 call knee over a couple of times until I figured it out, too. I completely missed the call "ON" knee hint, though.

Very creative teaser. I love it!
Once I figured there were thirteen of them, it immediately clicked into place. Very easy, but still, quite clever.
Welcome to the English Language!! Very cute!!
I got this one right for a change. Thanks for the post.

Yeah I Got It!!!
Nice one.
Nice!
oh my god, i never would have quessed that!
way 2 easy, but good one...keep up the good work
The best part about this one was that it wasn't a rebarfed teaser from 2003 and 2005!
It was also cool and I got it when I read the first one and saw so many below it

took me a few minutes but i finally figured it out
didn't care for this one
That was great going in my favs
I enjoyed it. Once I counted the 13 call on knees, I tried to make it harder, thinking it couldn't be so basic.....but it was.......
Great teaser! Brilliant rebus! It took some thinking though. I was looking and saying, "Call over knee?" "Knee under call?" "Call on knee?" Hot dawg! Colony. Yup, there's 13 of them!
Had to think for a minute but got it in the end. Fun one!
Read it at first and counted; didn't get it until i said it out loud. Strange pronunciation, smiled after i heard myself. Love these rebuses, or is it
rebi?
rebi?
FAR FROM BRILLIANT, JUST PLAIN EASY!
no way.
But, really, it was good! But I just have to agree with the others above. I never would've gotten it without the hint, because "call" pronounced "kawl" or almost like "coal", isn't the same as "caw" that rhymes with "paw". I would've expected it to be caw/knee if it was "colonies", so without the hint I never would've guessed that.
It's a great idea though. In my obviously humble, , opinion, (is he kidding? humble? ) (shaddup), I think if you changed the "call" to "caw", the teaseer would still be just as hard, but would also be PERFECT! It IS a BRILLIANT idea, it really is! Thanks for the teaser, Leaf!

Really, I think shows how hard it is to write these kinds of teasers because accents are different everywhere! ...and it's hard to explain pronunciation using text
groaaaaan great one leaf
good one

the 13 colonies. really really fu(copyright symbol)king obvious.
In most US dialects "call-on-knee" and "colony" are very close in pronunciation. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cot-caught_merger
Historical nit: The term "thirteen colonies" is a retronym. At the first Continental Congress there was no attempt to count them, because some colonies contained others. By the time of the second Continental Congress (Declaration of Independence) it was the "the thirteen united States of America".

I think that ":e :e :e :e..." etcetera would have been a much better way of representing this. Even so, this is an example of one of those many US style teasers on Braingle where if you are not an American you have little chance of recogniSing the "common phrase".
