he might have broke his watch, and wanted to know the time. By honking his horn, some one would have shouted "Hey Buddy, cut it out, it's 5:30 in the morning" thus giving him the time.

he could also have been (maybe) talking to car insurance guy or something of that sort and checking that the horn works because he never uses it. no sense. o well. 
the man's been getting nicely toasted in his room, drunk as a skunk, he leaves his room, but forgets why, gets in the car thinking it's his room, accidentally hits the horn, realises it's the car, and toddles off back to his room.

Yeah, I agree with beyonce123. Besides, even if everybody DID wake up, who turns on their light every time their eyes open??
