Here's The Kicker
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
I have a rule for words
Only certain ones may pass
Mom and level complete it
But fruit and record lack
It may seem pretty obvious
But don't jump to conclusions too soon
Racecar doesn't do it
But what does is kick and noon
What is the rule?

I was led by the nose.
First lines I was certain it was just a palindrome thing and it was too obvious. Then the teaser warned me not to be cocky. What/ Racecar does not fit? Kick does? What, what, what?
So is it things that sound like palindromes? What about level? That is lev-uhl isn't it? Hmmm...
So I thought that was the possible answer, but I was not certain. There is danger in homonym or phonetic based teasers is that different accents or dialects may prounouce words differently.
i still enjoyed this puzzle. The way it set me up and then told me I was set up and led me in a different direction was surprising and fun. I enjoyed it.

Congrats on getting your teaser featured, Rove! I did not get it, but it was still cool!
Fun and entertaining teaser. I did not get it. I immediately thought of palindromes but never even thought of phonetics.
There's a simpler answer. The words can only have one vowel, although duplicates of that vowel are okay.
Okay ones:
Mom - only has O
Level - only has E
Kick - only has I
Noon - only has O
Ones not okay:
Fruit - has U & I
Record - has E & O
Racecar - has A & E

Mom - only has O
Level - only has E
Kick - only has I
Noon - only has O
Ones not okay:
Fruit - has U & I

Racecar - has A & E
