ABOUT TONE TAGS
Tone Tag/Tone Indicators are letters that are added to the end of a message to show the recipient what the intent behind it is. This is very helpful for both neurodivergent people and regular people through text! Think about the last time you had a fight with a friend over text because they misunderstood your message- that’s what tone tags aim to help!
An example of how a tone tag works is this:
“I think you need help /srs”
“I think you need help /j”
This is the same sentence, yet the meaning behind it is incredibly different! Example one is someone genuinely concerned about somebody, while example two is some playful banter between friends.
Understand a bit better? Good! Here’s a list of the tone tags that are most commonly used and the ones I use the most!
/j = joking
/hj = half joking
/s= sarcastic / sarcasm
/srs = serious
/nsrs = not serious
/lh = light hearted
/gen = genuine
/genq = genuine question
/ref = reference
/nm = not mad
/nf = not forced
/pos = positive
/neg = negative
/neu = neutral
/t = teasing
/p = platonic
/r = romantic
/nm = not mad
In case that list isn’t enough for you: here’s a website that has a long list of tone tags as well https://toneindicators.carrd.co/#masterlist
