Leah's Rebellion
How many treats or words relative to treats are hidden below?
"Come on, Ginger," Leah smirked. "Let's go upstairs."
"What is wrong with your face?" Ginger snapped.
"My mom's being so mean."
"What happened?"
"She wouldn't let me dye my hair."
"So you're freaking out? You need to understand her."
"She yells all the time! There is no time for me to just sit down and talk to her. I mean, come on. What does she do for me?"
"Leah! How dare you say that? She is your mother! She takes care of you, she feeds you, she raised you! There's so much!"
"Oh yeah? I've got time." Leah took out a sheet of paper and a pencil and handed them to Ginger.
"Leah, this is stupid."
"Fine," she snatched back the paper, but Ginger snatched it right back and scribbled something down.
Leah read it aloud. "Cook." Then she scribbled something else down and handed it to Ginger.
"Don't need a cook. I.e I can cook. Leah, this is insane. Just think where you would be in life without your mother. Just think." Ginger stood to head for the door out of the room, but stopped as she heard a faint sniffle.
"Leah? Are you crying?"
"I just wish I could be close to my mom. I'm not, you know, and that could be why I'm such an ingrate."
"That's a start. I go to work with my father sometimes over the weekends because he's always at work. That way, he can work and spend time with me. He works with silicon wafers. They're really interesting."
At that moment, Leah and Ginger went downstairs. Ms. Groaner was sweetly surprised to receive a warm hug from her daughter, Leah.
"And as a special treat, I've got chocolate!"
And for the first time in a long time, the Groaners (and Ginger) smiled.
