And the bit remaining is E which stands for Easy!
Cut em some slack Jimbo. This was a first. Congratulations! And it was math related (your specialty)..Well...sort of math related. Kudos to you kid. (You better be a kid).

if its 3 then its kinda wrong... if u look at it, its only missing the other middle...if it was suppose to be what u say, then it would look like a backwards E kinda
Cute.
i hate to be all logic and stuff but tecnically its not 3 cos da no 3 is about 2/3's of 8 soz to b all goody goody pizz don't hate me
soz to keep goin on but i agree with moosdfsd
I kind of felt that, without a question mark, it became more of a "statement". ...and it stated that "What" is half of 8.
clever!
(meaning the teaser)
you people are way to picky it was a good riddle just leave it at that. Dont get all technical with it.
You all are just being too picky because you are mad that you didn't guess it right ....just trying to make yourselves look good and smart

I like it! Although, I thought it was 1x4. I didn't give it much thought.
I thought it was great. Well done. You picky ones... sheesh! ... and some people reckon us editors are picky. ;P
that was really cool.i thought it must be g since half of eight is g!!
really superb
really superb
I didn't think of that one!

how is halph oph eight a g?
Jun 15, 2004
some of you are way to picky. if the editors didn't think that the answer fit and that 3 was 2/3 of 8, the why did the accept this one? you need to lighten up. i actually thought that the answer was clever. i was thinking four. i wouldn't have thought to litterally divide 8 in half.

I thought it was 4 cos techinically 2x2 is 2x2 not 4. but thats just me

You all are getting to technical. It was a good brain teaser if you just didn't think to deep.

WOW I actually got it!

Good one! The riddle said it wasn't 0, so I knew it wasn't cut in half horizontally. Pretty clever that it was cut in half vertically!
I thought it was 16 because on a calculator, if you punch in 8 divided by .5, then you get 16. oh well, everybody looks at it differently. i think there could be many answers to this one.

I get it.
The teaser is wrong! The answer is 4. 4 is not a zero or 2x2. And if the answer was 3 couldn't it also be an E. Besides, 3 looks like a little bit more than half an 8

MULTIPLICATION TABLES!!! 2 times 2 equals 4!

Very tricky....fooled me. By the way, if you put this problem on the calculator you would put 8 TIMES .5 because "of" always stands for multiplication...

Could've been 6 if u cut it diagonally... sorta.

Could have been a 5 if you remove the upper right part and the lower left part! (Or is it an S?)

GOTCHA!
But how about "x"
n
8= X
U
But how about "x"
n
8= X
U
If it's n, x and u, the question would have been: '8 was divided into three, but it gave not 8/3 to thee. What will the result be?' or something. But never mind.
Anyways, this is a very familiar teaser and I'm proud my brain still works here.

I liked it. I was tricked. Thanks for posting.

No matter how you comment, the whole thing was pretty stupid!!!

It doesn't say it has to be a number. I cut it horizonally and got an o.
I was thinking of words, like FOUR but no "0" so I though FOR, oh well, it got me thinking!!!!
I was thinking of words, like FOUR but no "O" so I thought FOR - anyway, it got me thinking.
haha... that was... SOOOO EASY! I GOT THAT AFTER LIKE 5 SECONDS (literally... FIVE seconds)

I got it right away (well, I had to think it through a little) and I thought it was fun! It says that it's a trick question--not a math teaser. Also, I was impressed with the way the riddle was written.
Good job!
Good job!

I agree with icann - it IS a good teaser and fun, too!

Cute!
I liked it!

Heh- I thought it was eig or ei. xD you know- eight?
Easy, but good!
I got it on my 2nd or 3rd guess.

Good clues! I got it right away. Thank You!!!

This one didn't appeal to me - maybe it's too early! Have a wonderful day, friends!

I got it rather quickly (the 0 clue gave it away - it just indicated I should divide the 8 the otherway). Fun but easy.
However, are people really this picky? 3 is the correct answer. Yes, there's a remainder, so you could also claim Epsilon (in lowercase form) as an answer. Either are correct, but the implication is that the teaser is looking for a number. 2x2 is indeed meant to express 4, used as a synonym for rhyming purposes. The category is TRICK, afterall, and the solution is simple. I still don't get why people get so upset over getting stumped and need to attack the puzzle or creator rather than accept defeat and learn to grow from it.

There is no one, single obvious answer to this teaser, that's why folks are getting "picky".
Technically, if you cut 8 in half, you get E3, so you can chose either side, or both, as your answer. Or the letter O, since that's not the number 0.
Too many answers, but a clever idea.

I liked it. I thought I was really smart and then I read no zero. A moment later and I caught back up.

Good teaser. I got it in an instant.

Not fun, not cute, and didn't get it or like it. Sorry, that doesn't happen too often.

Very cute!
got that on first try, kinda easy

I looked on the E side instead of 3. Oh well.

The teaser was okay, but the comments are the funny ones. So many people have to dissect a teaser just for their own satisfaction. It is what it is. Either enjoy it or forget it.

This has been around since Abe Lincoln. Need some new material.

I got the answer the author intended. Pretty simple.
Last time I saw this teaser, I commented that it didn't appeal to me. Today I loved it. I can't believe I reacted that way before. I was so childish!
Thanks for posting!

How about One Half? lol
onehalfofeight
onehalf-ofeight
onehalfofeight
onehalf-ofeight

I PROVE WRONG WHEN U SAY 3 IS THE ANSWER. IF WE SPLIT 8 VERTICALLY IT SUPOSE TO E 3 OK
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser. I got it very quickly.

I needed this one after yesterday's daily challenge!
Thanks for the fun (and easy) puzzle!

Nice easy teaser young Jimbo; ideal for the juniors, thanks for posting!
For those being technical about splitting 8 to get 3, it could all depend on the font?
