Brain Teasers
Two Golfers
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
One sunny summer day two gentlemen decided to go golfing. After only a few holes both men hit their golf balls into the rough. Being good sports, they both walk into the tall grass and hit their balls and continue on with the game.
Some time later, one of the golfers falls terribly sick and has to spend some time recovering in the hospital. His doctor told him that he must have contracted the disease at the golf course. However, his fellow-golfer did not get sick and visited him several times in the hospital. Why did one one golfer get sick and not his friend?

Hint
Did playing golf get him sick?No
Did it have to do with the environment?
Yes
Did the other golfer do something to protect himself?
Yes
Answer
The golfer who got sick was diagnosed with Lyme disease which is transmitted by the bite of a very small deer tick. The course the men were playing on was located near a forest and when the golfers hit their balls into the tall grass, they came into contact with deer ticks. However only one golfer got sick because he had been wearing shorts while the other was wearing long pants. The golfer with pants passed harmlessly through the grass, while the other, with bare legs exposed himself to the ticks.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
