Brain Teasers
Am I Cuddly?
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
My children come from eggs, though they are fed on milk.
My gait resembles a lizard, but I surely am warmblooded.
I am an expert swimmer because my feet are webbed,
and my tail is a broad flat paddle.
Yet, I still have claws, and my legs contain venom,
whilst my tail is also a food store.
My mouth looks like a duck though I cannot quack, and my voice growls like a dog.
I am a most ingenious paradox.

Hooray, I'm the first one to comment. I hope you enjoyed this snippet of Australiana.
Very interesting! Didn't know they had venom & stored food in their tails & barked. Good job.
Really cute teaser. Thanks. (And yes they are cuddly! I cuddled one when I was a little girl).
Very interesting and informative Jazz! Thanks for giving us a peek of Aussie-ness there!
My pleasure Brainster.
hmmm, im really bad when it comes to animals it was intersting and informative tho!
Easy to answer, but still learned a couple new facts about the platypus. And yes, they look cuddly.
i like this!
just one question: whats the point of having venom in your leg?
just one question: whats the point of having venom in your leg?
Good question spazzyjazzy. The venom is used for defending themselves via a sharp spike on the back of their legs. A bit like the poison in the fangs of a snake. (Great nick by the way)
After the third line, I was like "Ok. I think it's..." then the fourth was like "Definitely!"
Good one though. I liked it. Probably because I got it lol. Ehh, bias. But still.

Too easy for an Aussie : ) great riddle
The venom line got it for me, discovery channel did a program on it and the aftermath of a guy who got stung, naasty stuff.
Really good! Liked it a lot!!!
Beaut teaser jazz but way too easy for an Aussie! Must've tricked the rest of 'em tho
Congrats, Jazz, on being TOTD!
Yeah very cuddly and very easy even for someone from Brooklyn.
Good one!! I saw this on Animal Planet a long time ago and was shocked to find out that they were venomous! Into my faves!
As Bebo said, too easy for an Aussie. I had it down to 2 animals on the 1s line (Platypus and Echidna), and the 2nd line did it for me. Nice teaser though, even if I got it easily.
HEN RONGYI (VERY EASY), BUT I AM SURE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE OR WILL LEARN SOMETHING FORM THIS.
I NEVER HEARD IT CALLED THE AUSTRALIAN PLATYPUS. I ONLY KNOW IT BY THE NAME DUCK-BILLED PLATYPUS.

That was a very good one and it kept me thinking.
I learned things about the animal as well.

Yahhh, the Platypus; it must skinned like a seagull before roasting. But it's best in a curry or in a breakfast congee. Good One.
i got one right maybe my little gray cells are coming back from vacation very fun teaser very very good..
I was sure it was a cow! Just kidding. Thanks for submitting. (3)
Easy peasy, got it straight away, great facts tho thx
Never knew any of the facts given. Must have missed that episode of Animal Planet. Good informative teaser.
As a nature buff, I got it after the first sentence - but it was fun to read and see how you worded it.
A very informative teaser. To some students in the world, this should become general trivia knowledge after the 5th or 6th grades. But, I enjoyed the description of one of the paradoxes of the animal world. Awesome job! Keep going!
Did not know all those interesting facts . Didnot know they were from Australia. but I knew it was a platypus. lovedit and learned some things keep them coming
very nice!
very nice!
i liked it.very cute
I liked it. It was very clever. Whats funny is that i was thinking of a platipus for some strange reason righ before i read this teaser!
clever, but I never thought of a platypus as cuddly.
i love the platypus...so i got it after the broad tail think or the webbed feet...but it was okie...good job!
I agree with the Ausie above that it was easy by the second stanza...the egg gave it away.
And, by the way, I'm not from Australia!

I liked this one. I got it but enjoyed learning all the facts. I vote 'cuddly'.It reminds me of the newspaper cartoon..can't remember title, but the platy description fits his looks.
Boy, did I learn something today! I had Duck-billed (Australian)Platypus out of the blocks. But an Echidna? I thought it was a mountain goat, and I'm feeling very sheepish...Pardon the pun... Another mammal that lays eggs! Thanks for the info! PS: Jazzmusician... Great info. and regards to Chuck Mangione who passed today... That guy could toot a horn!
Sorry JM, Rumors of Chuck Mangione's demise are highly exagerated! Maynard Ferguson died today. Great trumpet player, and the best version of "Gonna Fly Now" that I've heard.
haha. its good to know but youd have to be a dork to know that
Well.... I'm not an aussie, yet I still knew it was a Platapus. Common sense and with a little of the Discovery Channel helps.
Thanx for the riddle I found it enjoyable but yet easy.

My goodness...Teaser of the Day! Wow...a very unexpected privilege, hence all the great comments. Thank you for your feedback.
Badger, thanks for the information about Maynard Ferguson. Certainly a great loss to the jazz world. I did not know being in Vietnam at the moment.
Infinitoid, I'm not sure what your comment is trying to say here; but at any rate, I'm looking forward to reading your imput eventually. I'll be sure to add a comment.

The platypus certainly is a strange creature. People told of the platypus doubted the authhenticity of the descriptions. Strange indeed!
Had no trouble getting it, but I still learned a couple of new facts about those interesting creatures. Thanks for the informative description!
I also immediately knew the answer, but you had some great information that I did not know. Thanks for sharing and hope to see more from you,
Thank you Vierma
hum....i didnt get the country....i came up with the answer as i was scrolling down!! wow
I was here, but now I'm gone
I got this right before too long
Though all those facts I didn't know
So I gotta say -- way to go!
You ever notice how, when you come from the same country that a riddle is based in, it is really, really easy?
Truly, I had it from the title alone
Like the riddle though

Hi Storm...yes I agree totally with you. I get other aussie teasers really quickly too. It's mainly written to (try and) stump our International members.
Platypus! That is cool that you know about the spikes. A venomous mammal! Can you believe it?
