The Groaners Have Come Back Yet Again
How many common treats are hidden below?
Eliza, Leah, Mat, and Gerry Groaner are siblings. They love to groan.
"Never ask if you can dye your hair again!" Leah could hear her mother yelling as she stormed to her room and locked the door.
Leah looked in the mirror and began to cry. Black mascara melted off her eyes and swam down her face.
"Leah," Ms. Groaner called ten minutes later. "Leah, Ginger is here!"
Oh no, Ginger was already here. Claire, Doug, and Alexa were to arrive soon as well, for Leah had invited them. Leah looked at her water cup, splashed the water on her face, and then poured a wad of powder into it. Now the powder was wet. This simple act of stupidity somehow thrilled Leah.
Ring, ring! Her phone was ringing.
"Hello?" She answered the phone.
"Leah? It's Doug. Sorry, I can't come over today. Bye." No explanation? How polite.
She went over to her list of invitees. She was overly organized. A list for three people? Yet, her organization got the best of her this time. She had written Noug at the top of the paper instead of Doug. She felt so stupid.
"Leah! Come down!" Ms. Groaner's voice was starting to rise.
Leah didn't care. She could explain it all to Ginger later. She took her powder cup, caked the powder-water solution on her face and went down.
Immediately Ms. Groaner's nostrils flared. She was not used to her daughter's rebellious behavior. She reminisced about the days when her children were innocent souls blowing on pinwheels amazed by the object's ability to spin.
Ms. Groaner knew those days were over.
