i get it!!! at first i was like...what?? but then after rereading it i got the whole butter thing! great job!!!
I'm with Mathie - Great job! It was almost one of those that you have to go OOOOHHHH at. Makes you feel so stupid when you do figure it out. That was fun.
Could someone explain this one please??
Yeah, could someone explain?
I love it! I didn't get it until I saw the answer then the little light bulb went on...
For those that don't get it... A ram is a "butter" in the sense of "one that butts", and a ram being a breeding male sheep is never eaten (i.e. "on a plate"). The second line is about kids getting "licks of the rod" for being naughty (although this doesn't happen anymore in sensible places). Finally, a ramrod was used to "charge" an old firearm (such as a musket or cannon) by ramming the projectile into the gunpowder, and the whole lot right back into the chamber. I don't know what the author means by "not quite out of date" - with modern weapons, the explosive powder and the projectile are all nicely packaged together into a cartridge, which can be placed directly into the chamber, or fed through a clip or magazine.

That's clever and went well over my head. I had no idea what a ramrod was or that naughty boys used to like rods. What does that mean anyway? But if you knew all that, clever!
