Brain Teasers
Most Certainly a Conundrum!
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Yesterday you were walking down the street and overheard a person having a conversation with another. This is what you heard:
"There is too much space between rose and and and and and crown."
Your task is twofold!
1. How should this sentence be properly punctuated?
2. What occupations from the given list did the two people have?
Architect, Policeman, Tax Collector, Carpenter, IT Technician, Gardener, Waiter, Jeweler, Musician, Ambulance Officer, Nurse, Sign-writer, Publican, Engineer, Author.

Nice! I thought they wrote newspapers.
what's a publican?
Great teaser - very original! And - Happy Birthday, JAZZMUSICIAN.
safire: a publican is a person who owns a pub: a place where you can sit and have a beer, throw some darts, watch the footy, and basically relax.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!! Uh TOTALLY DIDNT get that whole "publican" business but I got the important part! Whoo! Good one
kind of confusing with all the "ands". Took me a long time to figure out by looking at my keyboard at 7 (shift 7 rather &)
This is a classic. Sometimes as "You need to have the same space beween Rose and and and and and Crown."
Sometimes asked as "give an example of an English sentence with the word AND five times in succession."
Sometimes used by logicians to illustrate difference between use and mention. It is really "between 'Rose' and 'and' and 'and' and 'and' and 'Crown' ". The ands in quotes are only mentioned, not used, and could be in a different language without altering the comprehensibility of the English sentnce. E.g. a Martian pub sign "CRXXXXQ3Z DSXX ZZSWW4zz": "leave the same space between CRXXQ3Z and DSXX and DSXX and ZZSWW4zz."
